Hi everyone, I wonder if you can give me some advice please. We are coming to the conclusion that we may have to go down the donor egg route and thinking of going abroad for the treatment. There are so many questions about the process and how it all happens. But more so, can anyone share their thoughts on whether it is best to have a fresh or frozen donor egg transfer please?

Donor eggs fresh or frozen?

Hi, I've just had fresh DE transfer, the clinic were great and put me on meds so I was in sync with the donor.... my husband went to the clinic a few weeks before and they froze his sperm sample. I found it took a lot of the stress off me as he was able to find out where the clinic was and all the logistics beforehand so that when I went we didn't have to stress about that. I cant comment on the frozen DE though I'm afraid. But good luck on your journey, there's a lot to prcess emotionally going down the DE route but I'm really pleased we have, it's given me new hope xx
Hi, thanks for your reply. You are right there is so much to think about. Wishing you all the best for a positive outcome x
Hi .
From my experience . If u are going abroad for DE transfer, try and be there on time so you can sync your cycle with the donors to avoid delays.
I had a fresh DE transfer abroad and I’m 12 weeks pregnant with twins. Never been pregnant and after failed Ivfs with own eggs.
My husband went before me to donate his sperm cause he was arround there at the time , so we used frozen sperm.
I went later on wen they had confirmed they found a donor for me, just to get there and they told me the donor started her period already so they couldn’t sync her with me.
I had to wait for a whole new donor and I was given zoladex to supress my next period.
But in the end, everything worked out well. I had a fresh transfer and flew back on the third day after transfer and it worked.
I hope this helps. Good luck x
personally I chose frozen eggs because I didn’t want to wait. It was a much simpler process as the eggs were already banked and available right away x
hi, I think the odds are quite similar. I bought 7 frozen eggs, got 2 blastocysts with donor sperm. First one worked. I was treated in the UK but my reasoning for frozen eggs was that I thought it was more predictable to purchase eggs already present and easier to plan treatment as no need to synchronise with the donor. However risk was that they didn’t all thaw but I think they did, or 6 of the 7 did I think.
However I did opt for a 50% refund package including 2 rounds with different donors and then 50% money back if didn’t work so I really hoped that would give me enough chances with frozen eggs. Good luck xx
My clinic didn’t give me the option. I did a refund guarantee package which was 3 rounds with all embryos transferred. This meant syncing me with donor for egg collection, fresh transfer of best embryo and the rest frozen. Then the frozen embryos used for following transfers.
