I have no other way to describe this - i read a post on this forum about a lady using her own eggs, but she also used part of a donor egg to fuel her own to make embryos. It was not the dna of the donor egg and so was still her own embryo.I can't find the words to goggle this - has anyone heard of this and do you know the name of the process?

Info on embryo fueled by donor parts?!?

it’s called mitochondrial donation.
Few years ago I read some clinics in US doesEgg Augmentation sth like that. It means they enhance the culture around egg to make it better in lab. Now they can use a mitochondria from a donor egg to culture the egg in it. Thy say the reason older egg doesn’t work is the mitochondria doesn’t have that much energy thst it used to have when younger. And all the supplements like CO Q10 etc, try to energize egg.
And yes they just get the mitochondria from the donor and all DNA still comes from the mother herself.
In UK you can only access this type of treatment (maternal spindle transfer its called) if you have mitochondrial disease. It is not a standard fertility treatment. In Europe there was a collaboration study between a Spanish and a Greek clinic that took place a few years ago-I think pre pandemic- and a very small number of women with infertility were offered this to see if it works. It is not yet a standard treatment in clinics. I read that in Ukraine they offered something similar- pronuclei transfer- where they fertilse your egg and a donor's egg with the intended father's sperm and then they replace the pronuclei from the fertilised donor's egg with your pronuclei.
This is wonderful, thank you all so much.
Also known as Mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT)
hi
Yes MRT. There are some clinics abroad practising it -on of them was at the fertility show so could be worth going along - or Google MRT. Good luck!
I was looking at this option but unfortunately for us I don’t have enough funds or time to pursue, if I had heard of it 3 years ago it would definitely have been my option
