hi all I’m just looking into things after 2 failed IUI’s and three failed IVF rounds my next step when I get the funds together would be the donor egg route, I’m just asking peoples thoughts on whether it’s best to just pay for a single round or to opt for multi cycle, I was planning on going down the frozen route rather than fresh

thoughts on single or multi cycle using donor eggs
when I had my donor egg treatment my clinic had a pregnant guarantee. From what I remember you paid a certain amount and bought three cycles. If you got pregnant (and the pregnancy progressed quite far, it was definitely beyond 12 weeks) the guarantee was over. So you ran the risk of paying all that money when paying for one cycle might have been cheaper. But if you didn’t get successfully pregnant you got your money back. Would this be useful for you?
Hi, the success rates for fresh eggs is much higher than frozen. We did a single donor round and got 2x blastocyst (my partner also has sperm issues). We transferred both and one stuck but miscarried. We had to do another cycle and got 3x blastocysts. We have twins from that. I think the cost was around €5000 per cycle plus my meds. The clinic now does some kind of guarantee cycle for around €10000. I think it includes 3x donor cycles. If you're not successful, money back.
Hi Chloe, I hope you don’t mind me replying to your post. We are currently looking in to clinics regarding DE. Would you mind private messaging me the clinic you used?
There are so many clinic that offer different options and packages that I am completely confused. I have an appointment with a clinic in 2 weeks and just want to have my options open.
Thanks.x
Hi
We personally decided we were only doing one round with donor eggs before ending our journey so didn't go for the multi round cycle. We got a frozen batch of 6 eggs and were very lucky to get 3 blasts which was ideal for us. You can also do a large batch from our egg bank 9 eggs which means potentially more blasts.
However some people have only got 1 blast from their medium batch which means you then only get 1 transfer before have to join the egg bank and select a donor again. In that situation doing the multi guarantee Brumbrum mentions was worth it as you get some money back if not successful after your 2 or 3 rounds.
it's a bit of a gamble on whether it'll work first time, how many blasts you get and transfers that would be included, if you just want the peace of mind to pay once and know you don't need to pay for anything else. It depends on what's best for you so have a look at places like Carepay or Access fertility to see what they offer and what works for you.
wish you the very best. Good luck
Hi Marley
I chose a 2x multi cycle for £15200 with care pay, 50% back if you don’t have a baby, it is a gamble as if you have a baby with the first round then you would have paid out more then you needed to. But it does include care maps, scans, transfers, bloods etc but not your medication.
However even when I got my bfp I didn’t regret it and it took the stress away of this being my last chance.
Unfortunately I have not long had a miscarriage, but am relieved I chose the multi cycle option as I know I have another chance already paid for, when I’ve healed from my loss.
Wishing you all the very best xx
hi, thank you for your reply I did do a multi cycle when I had IVF using my own eggs, just hoping my odds are higher using donor eggs. I had an early miscarriage with my last round using my own eggs. Lots to think about and to save for. All the best for your future round xx
