*Sensitive Post* Natural pregnancy while waiting for IVF round 2 - Would anyone recommend supplementing with Cyclogest?

Hello,I was waiting for my period to come to start round 2 of IVF. (We had 3 failed transfers with good embryos on cycle 1). But...My period has not come and I got my first ever BFP.

I have all of my medication ready and waiting, I was wondering if anyone knew whether I should supplement my natural pregnancy with Cyclogest? Or do I trust that my body is doing the right thing to get this far? I am 16 days post ovulation and 2 test have confirmed BFP.

Thanks,

I'd suggest asking your clinic and/or GP - but from what I remember from previous reading of research, there isn't any evidence that progesterone makes any difference (outside of its uses in IVF) unless 1. you get bleeding AND 2. you've had a previous miscarriage. So it may just increase side effects (and mess!) without adding any benefit, unless both of those circumstances apply to you.

P.s. Congratulations!

Thank you for taking the time to respond, that's along the lines of what information I've been able to find so far. It's just stick with me that high progesterone=Good for pregnancy and thought, seeing as I have a load of it, maybe it won't do any harm. I will speak to my clinic on Monday. This is my first ever BFP so I haven't experienced bleeding or loss in the past x

Thank you so much, as i was due to start my fresh cycle, I had an internal ultrasound at 11 days post ovulation (pregnancy won't be visible till 17 days apparently) my lining was 5.9-6.1mm apparently. So that's completely natural, seems like that thickness has been ok for me so far x

Thank you so much! We are so happy, I am nervous though as it's taken us so long to get here. I'll feel better after first scan x

Congratulations! This happened to me and I freaked out as I thought all my issues had been due to progesterone and as I only found out late (thought I'd just had a light period) I wasn't on anything. I immediately used a pessary and spoke to my IVF consultant and he said progesterone wasn't necessary on a natural pregnancy as the body should make enough, but that there was no harm if I did use it. I'd had bleeding in a prior (IVF) pregnancy and early losses so I fitted the NICE criteria to take it. But my thinking was that as I'd already got a few weeks along and most of the time progesterone helps extend the luteal phase and maintain lining so you get the BFP in the first place, it probably wouldn't make any difference, and I wasn't bleeding or spotting. However I got my HCG checked and progesterone at the same time - when they were fine I decided not to use it, but felt good having it as an option. So you could get those tests done for reassurance or to help you and your doctors decide?

Thank you for replying. I can totally understand why you would want to take after past experience. I've not taken any yet, I'm waiting to speak to my clinic tomorrow. I'm thinking I may not need it now and hope my body is doing what it needs to do. I would feel better getting blood tests, I'll see if I can get them next week x

This happened to me too - congrats. I didn’t take progesterone, clinic said no need, but agree with others that I can’t see the harm in adding that extra support.

Thank you 😊 I spoke to my clinic today and they said there is no need for progesterone, I kind of want to be I tune with my body, adding progesterone could cause side effects that end up confusing x
