Hello so i have been taking 5mg folic acid for the past year . My first baby had a cleft lip and palate . Who we lost at 21 weeks . Since then i have been on 5mg folic acid my recent bloods showed that my folic acid is >20 ug/l . Is this too much?
Im scared if and when i do get pregnant this can negatively affect the development of the baby.
I take a prenatal which has 400 methylfolate aswell . Idont know what tondo i am really confused . Do i stop the 5mg folic acid and just take the regular prenatal and maybe a 400 folic acid? Ontop instead of this 5mg?
I am likely to see a fetal medicine specialist but wondered if anyone had experience with this?
it sounds like you’re taking 5mg folic acid because it has been prescribed? If so, absolutely continue to take it. We had to terminate our pregnancy due to a neural tube defect and I am prescribed 5mg folic acid now. I take a few other vitamins separately (vid d and omega 3) xx
hi I’m sorry for your previous loss. I took 5mg folic acid (epileptic) plus multivitamins that include it. As the 12weeks approached I asked my consultant about stopping and she said to stay on it as it does no harm if anything it may help. Any that isn’t needed you pee out so it’s not harmful. Good luck with everything
Thankyou❤️ is baby healthy? Im scared about the effects on the baby . I have read can slow development etc. so just dk if i should take a right balance . Hope im not over doing it xx
She is a perfect, healthy 22month old meeting all developmental milestones. Is it normal to question what you’re doing or being told especially after your loss it my neurologist that said just to stay on it as you’re getting rid of anything you don’t need
Thats amazing congratulations on your angel❤️! Thankyou so much for that❤️ its very reassuring from a neurologists perspective how long did you take folic acid for prior to your pregnancy its been a year for me now .
