Hi,For any of you that have had an ectopic pregnancy what did the shoulder pain feel like?
I'm 6 weeks pregnant through IVF and had some fairly heavy bleeding a week ago so obviously ectopic pregnancy is at the forefront of my mind. I've had some shoulder aches and I'm sure it probably is just because I'm hyper aware of everything that I'm noticing it but was just looking for others experiences.
Thanks

Hi! have you been to the doctors for them to check? The reason I am asking is because on my first pregnancy I bled quiet a bit but it was because I had a hematoma, so it might not be ectopic.
Thank you for your reply! I haven't seen the Dr but have a scan booked with my IVF clinic on Thursday. They had said if bleeding got heavier they could move it forward but since I spoke to them last week I've rested up and the bleeding has completely stopped. I'm just struggling being in this limbo of not knowing if I can get excited about being pregnant or not.
ohh god I know....I had my first checked on Monday and so far seems ok but they have seen another hematoma in this pregnancy so they told me to expect to bleed....so here I am waiting for it to happen.....you would think that the stress of not knowing the outcome stops when they confirm that you are pregnant, but actually that's the begining....
Oh I know what you mean! I now feel so naive about how easy and relaxed my first pregnancy was (natural pregnancy). Obviously a lot is different this time round and I'm feeling more pregnancy symptom wise so it's hard to not be second guessing and worrying about everything.
I had minimal bleeding with my ectopic. I did however have intense cramps one side of my abdomen.I have had shoulder cramps with all 3 pregnancies (all of which were miscarriages in my case unfortunately). If you've had bleeding and you have concerns I would definitely contact your Early pregnancy Unit to get checked. Wishing you all the best. xx
Hi, I didn't get the shoulder pain. I woke up one morning with a lot of discomfort in my side that escalated to a pain I nearly passed out from. I was monitored at the EPU for about a week until they were able to scan at 6 weeks and discovered it was ectopic. They did keep asking if I had any pain in the tips of my shoulders.
Hi. I have had an ectopic IVF pregnancy and I so wish now that I would have contacted the EPU. I started to have some symptoms I was concerned about so I called the fertility clinic. They said I was booked in for an early scan with them the following week anyway so to wait until then unless I started having both abdominal pain and bleeding at the same time.
I wasn't actually suspecting it was ectopic at this point as I have had a missed miscarriage in the past and my only early warning sign was brown discharge and that's one of the symptoms I was having with this ectopic. I even told the nurse about my history as if to highlight that pain and bleeding together aren't necessarily the only things to watch out for! I also now know that bleeding doesn't always happen with an ectopic either as I never bled.
I waited until the scan a week later and it was a live ectopic pregnancy about to rupture and I was rushed in for emergency surgery and had to have my left fallopian tube removed.
I have since had a second ectopic pregnancy and I called the EPU the day I found out I was pregnant. They started monitoring me every 48 hours right from that day and it was a good job they were as it ruptured very early at 5 weeks this time.
I don't say any of this to scare you as there could be other reasons for your symptoms. It is always better to be safe than sorry so if you feel you are concerned and just being fobbed off by your fertility clinic, please trust your gut and go to an EPU to be assessed. I hope everything will be OK for you xxx
Hi there ❤️I didn't have shoulder pain rather leg pain. It felt like inflammation pain but in bursts, like stabbing in my nerves. It was a fairly unique pain.
