so I had my 2nd egg collection yesterday which was brought forward two days because at my scan on Wednesday I had a large amount of follicles and they were worried about the eggs “over maturing”. Yesterday, we collected 19 eggs and I was told after that 15 of the follicles were a really good size so was hoping for around 15 mature eggs. The call this morning revealed only 7 were mature, 6 have fertilised but all have air pockets (I think he said they were called vacuoles) - I will get an update on Monday but it felt like he was already preparing me for bad news. Has anyone ever experienced this? Has bring the EC forward ruined all the mature eggs? Any success stories of embryos with air pockets developing normally? I’m devastated xx

I’m sorry I don’t know about the vacuoles but in my experience the collection date was always loose, dependent on the bloodwork and ultrasound and always subject to changing. I don’t think there’s a proper day, it’s whatever they think looks good based on your body in the moment. I’ve heard that eggs need at least 10 days to develop in the follicular phase for better pregnancy outcomes in the regular world, but in the IVF world with all the medications anything is possible. You have big numbers though!! I would have been thrilled with those numbers. 7 mature!!
Thanks for your reply. I have a reasonably high AMH and were referred for ICSI due to severe MF. We got 12 mature eggs the first round on exact same protocol which I guess is why I’m so disappointed. The 7 mature eggs were all terrible quality too and stopped growing by day 3 so just can’t wrap my head around what went to wrong this time, apart from many the retrieval 3 days early x
