Progesterone on natural conception?

So I had 1 previous loss and I have seen in several researches, posts by other mom's and also seen on Tommy's that it helps if in next conception progesterone is taken. My relative gynac also suggested me to do the same. However my doctor says there is no need to test progesterone or taking it.Do I administer it by myself?

I'm very confused.

Hello, I’m so sorry for your previous loss. I think that research has shown quite clearly that taking progesterone pessaries is beneficial when you are pregnant and experiencing bleeding and especially when you have a history of loss. You can’t take progesterone without a prescription. And it may not be needed but it can’t hurt a pregnancy as long as taken as prescribed-so I would say if you feel it would be supportive I would give it a try from the day of your next positive pregnancy test. If you’ve had one loss and your luteal phase/period cycle is normal and you have no other complicating factors most doctors wouldn’t run any progesterone testing-but it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t prescribe it. If your luteal phase is normal and you’ve got no other reason to think your progesterone is low then it probably isn’t worth worrying about taking it after ovulation/before a positive test-but not sure/I’m not medically trained! Ive taken it from various stages during natural conception -it all depends on your circumstance and if there is any way of knowing more about what caused your previous pregnancy loss. If your gynaecologist is happy to prescribe /monitor you then that’s better than a GP prescribing it any way. Hope things work out for you X

Agree with CassieJ and that advice. The HFEA guidance was updated a few years ago to recommend progesterone support for at risk pregnancies and in cases of prior loss where relevant. Are you asking for an IVF pregnancy or natural conception? Some clinics and GPs are more clued up and supportive on progesterone than others and it's worth pointing them to the guidance if they aren't already aware of it and asking them why it's not relevant in your case if they say that. I was on it for most of my first pregnancy (IVF) even though I was told my progesterone was OK as I was bleeding which worried me, and I was told I could take it for my second (natural) as it can't do any harm - in the end I didn't take it for the second one as I had my levels tested and they were fine and I didn't get any bleeding but my clinic, GP and local maternity hospital were all happy to prescribe it if I had wanted or I got symptoms.
