Hi all,I suffer from heavy periods to the point I don't leave home when am on

I have a work trip coming up when am due on. I can't cancel .

I have left over utrogestan from a failed IVF , could I take this to delay my period and if so when would I start it?

When I had the IVF I didn't bleed till two days after I stopped taking the utrogestan. Thanks !

There are quite a few things to consider here. I don't think anyone who isn't your doctor can say it's OK to take to a synthetic hormone or when. Could you ask your clinic or your GP? Have you had your heavy periods investigated or diagnosed? I used to be on the combined pill and take that for 3 months at a time for endometriosis and gradually it did go. Whether it then left me with long term side effects I don't know. But if you were on utrogestan before and ok on it, and it's a one-off you're comfortable with then it's probably fine as it's a generally low risk med that's commonly prescribed for pregnancy, IVF and I believe luteal support in normal menstruation - on the last one, I think you take it from a few days after ovulation until you want to time the period to start. I just don't know if there are better or more appropriate meds that you should be taking (or avoiding) and no med is no risk. Maybe have a look at the patient information online and the health authority's guidance and that will give you an idea. If you can check with a doctor though that's probably best and I do remember GPs prescribing my friends with meds to delay their periods as one-offs so they would hopefully be used to the request.

I've read people who've taken the delay period meds from the GP have had their ovulation messed up. Didn't want to risk that .I had some investigations as part of infertility but nothing was discovered. Case closed by GP. Don't really know what to do. It's exhausting!

Good idea about the online information about the medication! Thank you

Hmm, yes, afraid I can't give too much hope there as I was having investigations for the best part of 20 years... sometimes I rallied and insisted on more referrals, not being turned away, even went private, other times I gave up and took long breaks. I did transpire I had endometriosis but even when that had gone I had lots of symptoms like long and irregular cycles, bleeding and spotting before periods, very heavy etc. And unexplained infertility. I was going to try progesterone support in the latter half of my cycle to help with the spotting but IVF etc took over. On a slightly more hopeful note IVF did work and after my first pregnancy my cycles went like clockwork and I've never had problems since, no idea why.
