I spoke to the lab today as we had DNA testing on our aneuploid embryos to see if the issues were paternal or maternal and 1 came back paternal, 2 maternal and 1 maternal and paternal. It gives me confidence that maybe our last untested embryo maybe be the right match. And it also gives me hope for egg collection number 4.

From our 3rd round we got 6 blastocysts, we transferred one 5AA which was a BFN (our second bfn) so decided to pgta test the remaining frozen blasts.
We were only able to test 4, which sadly all came back aneuploid with complex abnormalities. We have one hatching 5BB/C left frozen, which is untested. My questions are;
Has anyone pgta tested their blasts and had just 1 normal? Or has anyone tested and the lowest quality been the normal one?
Cant work out if we’re wasting our time transferring this one as every other in the cycle was aneuploid. Thank you. Xxx

hi, I am so sorry your on this roller coaster, i have been on it many many times, i am over 40 now and have done 9 FRESH cycles in 11 years… I have 2 dd … ttca and have had 2 retrievals in the last 8 months .. first retrieval No Normals .. (first time ever as every other time i have always had a minumin 2 -4 normals… we did have 1 low level mosaic.. bfn… 2nd retrieval Jan 2024 only ONE normal and 1 low level mosaic .. I made the mistake of transferring both.. bfn again… I believe in testing as its worked for us in the past, and on the cycles I didnt test bfn … my re has told us each cycle is different but over 40/41 you need to keep looking for that good egg so to speak .. it also takes longer as in more cycles to get success.. all the best to you
Wowee 11 cycles, you’re incredible - congrats on your 2 dd’s. I’m 36 so I hope that if I try again this year I could find a normal embryo. The cost and emotional heart ache is the hardest.x
Hi, in our first ever cycle (via the NHS) we got 5 blastocysts. We transferred the highest graded embryo and got a BFP. Unfortunately the embryo stopped growing at 5 weeks and ended in a medical managed miscarriage. The likely cause was said to be chromosomal abnormalities.
Following this we took the decision (after speaking to a private consultant) to have our remaining 4 blastocysts PGTA tested, of which 1 came back normal. This embryo was transferred shortly after but unfortunately did not stick.

we didn’t test but from the 6 embryos form our first round out 5AA and 5ABs were BFN or miscarriage and our 4BC (which coincidently was also a ‘hatching’ blast) gave us our little boy so I defo don’t think the grading represents if the embryo is going to be the one that continues and is chromosomal normal as it’s just an external ‘beauty contest’. I would be tempted to try your hatching blast for sure xx

I agree with you that the grading is just a beauty contest, I can’t help but think the last blast is just as bad as it’s from the same batch. But I guess there is a tiny chance that it’s normal. Thanks for sharing xx
No nothing different than the previous transfer that was also a FET but previous was a chemical. The only trying that was different was that was ‘hatching’ and I dj t remember them saying that about any of the others even the 5AA. I honestly think it was just down to finding that 1 embryo out of the 6 that was the normal one and for us that was defo not the best graded whatsoever xx
Zero experience of this as I’m using donor so no testing, but my opinion would be just give it a go. May fail but at least you’ll not be wondering if it may have been the one??!
Thanks Doodlebug23 - I’m in 2 minds due to the costs 😞 don’t know whether to put the money towards a fresh round. It’s so hard to make these decisions isn’t it 😖 I feel like I’m constantly weighing up chances.
Oh no I didn’t consider that 🙈 I struggled with the decision as to whether to try OE before DE and based on the odds I went straight to DE. Sorry I’m no bloody help!!
We’re also struggling a little with this too! Another round with PGTA would cost around 13/14k! And it could be for nothing ….consultant thinks we should try again with OE. But I don’t trust them and think it’s all a money making scheme 🤪 tbh this is all pie in the sky as me and my husband have had a huge row over our fertility journey and aren’t talking 😹
Wow £14k! My plan was £17k but I try not to think about jt! Oh no! Just another added thing to add to the stress of it all. I guess at least I don’t have that! 🙈
Sorry to jump on this. We ended up going down the donor path in the end. We tested all embryos from donor and a heap came back abnormal from different donors xxx
I tested my embryos and 40% were normal. Best quality one didn’t implant, 2nd did and gave my son, 3rd was early implantation failure/chemical and 4th (worst grade but don’t know actual grade) worked and now 18weeks so I would say embryo grading means very little!
hello. We have had tests done where all the top quality ones were abnormal and the one that was really poor quality so poor that they didn’t think it would even defrost was normal. The only reason we tested it was because it was a certain price to test 4 so we put them all for testing. The 3 abnormals were AA and ABs the poor one was a CD xxx
Wow, thank you so much for sharing!! This gives me a bit of hope. I also spoke to embryologist today who made me feel a bit more positive. We had DNA testing done on our aneuploid embryos to see if the issues were maternal or paternal and it came back a mixture - which gives us confidence that we can both produce normal egg and sperm, we were just unlucky that the wrong ones ended up together 🫶🏻
Hey lovely, statistically your 1 embie is probably normal if the others weren't - I don't think it's a case of a "bad batch".... but we all know that statistics are just that.
Personally if it was me, I would probably transfer it before doing another cycle because I would always wonder....
FYI - I had 9 embryos frozen and tested. 1 failed to thaw, 2 were discarded due to abnormalities and 6 were normal. We have a little boy from the first tested embryo (6th transfer) and we have transferred 2 more normal embryos from that batch since - and both have failed to implant. So honestly I think there are so many variables in each transfer that it's worth a go!
Thank you Millbanks - you’re right, I spoke to embryologist today and she said it doesn’t work like that in terms of bad batch etc. so I need to be positive and transfer it.

Hi- I had 1/5 blastocysts euploid on my first round, a 5BB which sadly ended in miscarriage. It happened to be my + 1 which I did an additional cheek swab test for to ensure it had fertilised correctly. This round I’ve got a 3BB euploid which the embryologist said isn’t as good a grade BUT it’s PGTa tested and that helps. It was also more black and white this time as it was tested straight as a euploid without a question mark and further test. I’m 40 and so getting two euploids in too retrievals is delivered to me by the consultants as somewhat of a miracle. I have a good gut feeling about this one despite the poorer grade 🤞🏻x
