Hi, I'm 33, trying to conceive for 1 year now and have been diagnosed with PCOS in the last 2 months. I haven't had a period in 6 months. I have also had some hair loss and bad acne in that time frame, neither of which I've had at any other time in my life.An internal ultrasound scan found that my ovaries, whilst apparently a healthy size, contain only premature follicles. Looking to hear from others who may have had a similar thing. Am I a lost cause? Any advice on things to try next? (Should state I have been referred to a fertility clinic and should have a consulation with them in 1 month or so)Thanks so much!

You definitely are not a lost cause! Pcos doesn’t automatically mean you are infertile either but for some women it can make it hard to get pregnant.
I have pcos too and everytime I’ve had scans they always show a lot of follicles in various stages of development. It likely means your body isn’t ovulating as well as it should. Or at all if you aren’t having periods. When oestrogen is too high, and progesterone too low or out of sync you develop lots of little follicles but they don’t mature well so you don’t ovulate.
In the first instance I was prescribed medication to help me ovulate. I have two friends who both became pregnant taking clomid of lentrazole.
You just take it for 5 days at the start of your cycle. The clinic can also give you medication to help induce a period. Not having periods for a long time can make your womb not a great place for pregnancies.
sometimes they also give you medication like metformin which can help with the insulin part of pcos and that in turn can help with ovulation too.
Best thing you can do in the time you are waiting is to just make your body the most pregnancy friendly place you can. No cigarettes or excessive booze or drugs, healthyish diet and some exercise etc and a preconception supplement.
if all else fails, ivf might be able to help. While I’m by no means an advert for success, I do have a little boy from my last round of fertility treatment. He was a long slog but with the wait.
Best of luck!
