Underactive Thyroid Experiences?

I have had 1 failed cycle of ICSI. Since then I have had lots of tests to do everything possible for next round. 1 test that wasn’t done in clinic and has flagged up seperately is that my thryroid is 4.05. After doing research i believe under 2.5 is the magic number for pregnancy. As a result of this I’m now on Levothyroxine. I’m hoping this is the missing ingredient. Does anyone have any experience of this?

When I first started TTC mine came up as over 6 and after regular tests I found that it was fluctuating, sometimes 3, sometimes 4, sometimes 2. My IVF consultant put me on Levothyroxine. I have no idea if that was the cause of my issues but you’re right they do want it below 2.5 and I’m on 75mg per day now, get it checked at the GP every 6 weeks and it’s generally below 2. It’s so scary when it first happens! My consultant wasn’t too concerned about it once I went onto Levothyroxine, my issues were mainly around egg quality. x

Ah that’s great to hear a story that it lowers. Did this lead to success if you don’t mind me asking or are you still going through the stages?

I am currently 24 weeks with DE and the TSH levels only leveled out once I was onto 75mg per day. I think they want them lowered for when you’re actually transferring, I’m not sure how much they affect actually getting pregnant/egg collection process xxx

my first failed transfer my TSH was 4 and I was put on thyroxine which lowered it to less than 2. I’ve been on it ever since and have now had 3 successful transfers (with one early loss). No idea if this was the reason as I also introduced immune protocol but I suspect it helped. X

I have hypothyroidism and my clinic has told me it doesn’t impact embryo creation, but it does impact implantation. So they will do a retrieval when I’m off. But not a transfer. I hope that helps.

Estrogen can mess up your tsh levels so that might be why they aren’t concerned about it just yet , but I would definitely follow up with your doc or an endocrinologist to get that thyroid looked at more closely.

Thanks for your reply. Ah yes that makes sense. We had good quality eggs and 1 strong embryo that didn’t implant so potentially why.

We are booking a call with our consultant before the next go so hopefully he sheds some light on this.

Thankyou very much.

Hi! I have had hypothyroidism for years before trying to conceive and have been on levothyroxine. My endocrinology consultant always said that the thyroid hormones have to be in a normal range for implantation to happen, so I had them checked before each round of IVF. We did manage to conceive via IVF. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thankyou so much. Very helpful. I’ll definitely have checks on my levels before and during my next go!
