Advice not to have milk

I’ve had reflexology today ahead of my transfer on Friday, and she advised not to consume milk. The theory’s basically if you put milk into your body it creates a hormonal reaction which has a negative impact on fertility. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your body thinks to produce milk, but if you introduce milk it thinks oh I don’t need to behave that way.

I’ll be honest I can see the logic but it sounds a bit bonkers to me!

Anyone else heard of this?!

Nope. I deliberately added more full fat milk, yoghurt, cream... in the run up to my successful FET and had loads of it throughout pregnancy. I did have a pretty large baby so who knows if that had anything to with it, but I also produced masses of breastmilk. So maybe there's something in the milk changing your hormone balance theory, but the effects certainly didn't come through like that for me. I think there are a lot of myths and old wives tales around conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding - some more scientific than others (when I was on holiday and suffering from morning sickness, a local lady practically knocked my ginger juice drink out of my hand and told me in no uncertain terms that ginger was "bad for baby - too strong" and when I explained in the UK we actually recommend ginger for morning sickness she looked appalled), but there may be some truth in there somewhere. Interested to hear if anyone else has come across this.

This lady is polish so I’m wondering if it’s an old wives tale from Poland! All research I have done has pointed to swap to full fat and drink more!

Sounds a bit out there 🤪

Unless you were lactose intolerant or had some allergy to milk.

That’s what I thought!

In the run up to my successful cycle, my clinic advised drinking at least a litre of full fat cow milk every day from stims till bfp. Good luck with your cycle! 👍

My clinic haven’t mentioned anything, just to ear a healthy well balanced diet. I have transfer on Friday so will just 🤞🏼 and worry about it WHEN I get my BFP!

It depends how much you have. Milk contains prolactin which stimulates milk production, but can prevent egg release. Not sure how much you'd have to drink for that to happen. It also has estrogen in it, so if you suffer from endometriosis, it might make it worse. When I was pregnant I was told to take lots of dairy, as I had gestational diabetes and had to reduce carbs/sugar, so it can't be that bad for you.

I was only having it in my morning cuppa tea, or a coffee (decaf) made with oat milk. 🙈

I’m using DE which I didn’t mention to her and I did have endo zapped before my NHS cycle a few years ago. So that does I suppose make some sense. I did think when pregnant you were supposed to have full fat milk so WHEN I get my BFP I will just do that! I’m still having my smoothie every day with yoghurt so at least I’m getting my dairy still!

I was told by a fertility nutritionist that full fat milk is great in a fresh cycle - helps the follicles but in a FET, a portion of full fat yoghurt was enough each day. Some dairy, but not a huge amount if that makes sense. I’m lactose intolerant though (not that I pay much attention to it) but that’s what I was told.

I’m using DE and having FET. I’m drinking smoothies with yoghurt so hopefully that’s my dairy taken care of!

Hi! Never heard of it. I can see the argument about hormones given the growth and other hormones they give to lactating cows but I think you should be fine if you go organic. Not much of a milk drinker myself but I had lots of Greek yoghurt in the run up to and after my successful FET. Very best of luck!

I’d love to be a lactating cow lol 😂😂

I’m using Greek yoghurt in my smoothies and tbh I’m not really missing milk.

Thankyou. Getting excited now!!!! X
