just wanted to let people know that it is possible to have abdominal scans before egg collection… I’m on my second cycle and still getting these. It’s so much less invasive but they don’t offer unless you ask! It’s is less accurate but unless you have a very small follicle count it does the job. Also depends on the skill of the sonographer so varies between them but I’ve had a good experience thus far!
In case helpful to anyone else who doesn’t like being invasively prodded!

Hi Coffeeone, trans-abdominal scans are good for demonstrating gross pelvic structures that cannot be picked up during a transvaginal scan. Whereas, the transvaginal scan is seen as ‘gold standard’ and due to its role in follicle tracking for ivf, the measurements are recorded in mm. The follicles can be accurately recorded and plays a role in your/patient pathway. I personally would go for transvaginal. Good luck and sending baby dust your way x
You’re right about transvaginal being more accurate but abdominal works too - I’m on my second cycle and they’ve got what they needed, so I’m going to stick with it
