anyone tried low dose naltrexone for fertility?

Hi there,

I'm just come across Low Dose Naltrexone and the LDN Research Trust and it seems to work miracles on both fertility and autoimmune conditions (I have hashimoto's - auto immune underactive thyroid) and have been trying to conceive naturally for almost three years.

I wondered if it's something anyone on here has tried? It seems to work by modulating the immune system, so I guess could be good for things like if your natural killer cells are preventing pregnancy.

Here is a doctor who promote it talking about it and pregnancy:

ldnresearchtrust.org/pregna...

I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts or experiences of this. It's not offered on the NHS so only available privately but apparently isn't expensive (but I don't know the costs).

Many thanks

hi, yes i have used it. I have Hashimotos and high natural killer cells. In that successfull transfer I used a lot of other meds so I really don’t know which worked but I read great things about LDN and if i were doing another transfer I would definitely use it again.

Oh interesting. How much did you get up to? And how long before your transfer did you start it? Oh and could you pm me where you got it from? And did you use it during your pregnancy?

Many thanks

Hi, how did you get on sourcing LDN and have you started it yet? I’m interested in trying this after many unsuccessful IVF transfers and recurrent miscarriages but I am unsure how to obtain this without a prescription. It would be great to know your experience. Thanks.

Hi Micra121,

Sorry for my late reply, and sorry to hear about your difficulties with fertility.

I made an appointment with Roseway Labs but the doctor there thought I needed to improve my thyroid levels before taking LDN. She said that LDN took a while and as I'm trying to get pregnant I should try something quicker. So I'm now starting on natural dessicated thyroid. If I took LDN at the same time then I wouldn't know what was working. She also said that I would find it difficult to find anyone who'd prescribe LDN during pregnancy if I did get pregnant, so might not be a good idea to start and then need to come off it (even though I'd read that it's actually very beneficial to take during pregnancy - I think it's not been very well tested yet so prescribers are cautious). So I decided to leave it for now and see what impact the NDT has.

Be interested to hear from anyone else if they've been able to have LDN prescribed, during pregnancy though. I also don't know how to get it without prescription - does anyone know if this is possible (in the UK)?

Thank you so much for this information, it is incredibly helpful and I really appreciate you sharing this.

Maybe I will look into NDT first as I’ve never heard of this and see what impact this could have. I’m about to head into another FET so I’ve probably left it a bit late for this cycle but I’ve been very unwell (and in hospital) over the last 3 weeks so haven’t been able to look into LDN or NDT (hence the long delay in my reply), as it’s my understanding these take time to work.

I am member of a Facebook group called: Using LDN to Conceive and many ladies on there don’t tell their prescribing doctor that they are pregnant as most doctors would stop the prescription.

I will have to keep my fingers crossed for some luck for this cycle and look into these meds for another FET if it doesn’t work.

Please keep us posted on how you are getting in with the NDT, your experience would be very useful. Many thanks and good luck on your journey!!
