After 7 months me and my partner have just finished a three cycle ICSI package, we now have 15 embryos of varying grades frozen and decided to get PGT-A testing done on all 15 😬. I am 40 in a couple of months and because of my age I’m worried about the number of embryos we might lose through testing. We’ve already been through 4 transfers in the last few years and no success yet so went for testing to avoid further heartbreak. We’ve got an anxious wait for the results as the clinic say to allow 5 weeks. Keen to hear other people’s experiences of having gone through PGT-A testing. Thanks!

First 4 egg collections we never tested - only ever got 2-3 embryos each time, so preferred to just transfer. But on our 5th (and last) egg collection we decided to test, like you trying to avoid unnecessary heartbreak. We only had 3 embryos good enough to test and freeze - I was so anxious they’d be all abnormal and we wouldn’t even have 1 to transfer. But - 2 are healthy and the 3rd mosaic! So that was an amazing result for us. I’m currently 8 weeks with the first healthy embryo 🤞🤞
(For context, this last egg collection was done when I’m 40 yo too ) x
I’m 38 in couple of months and we had 10 embryos to test, 7 came back normal, one mosaic (they started doing transfers with mosaic embryos too in last couple of years as statistics showed that they can lead to successful pregnancy). The two bad ones - one was missing chromosome and the other had trisomia so I do think that testing removes embryos that would probably lead to miscarriages. I had two miscarriages (natural pregnancies) so we wanted to test. Soon starting natural FET (first transfer ever) and hoping for the best. Good luck to all of us 🙏🏻🤞🏻
Thanks for taking the time to reply. That’s a good number of normal embryos. I had a call yesterday to say the results are back already, I have to wait until Wednesday to get them though 😬. All the very best for your transfer, I have everything crossed for you. X
Thank you! I’m getting nervous and hopeful and scared all at the same time as days go by. Good luck to you! I’m sure you’ll get good results 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 sending hugs your way
massive advocate of testing here. I’m 40, had 5 transfers, 2 miscarriages. Tested my last batch, had 6 tested, only 1 normal and 2 mosaic so very happy we tested as 3 maybe 5 would have resulted in miscarriage again. I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant with that 1 normal so hopefully it’s worked for me 🥰 best of luck!! xxx
So from the 3 egg collections we ended up with 9 frozen embryos. We decided to test all 15 and 6 came back normal. I was really happy with that outcome. Wishing you all the luck in the world with your testing. Xx
hi Crie, I hope you’re well, you have got an amazing number of good embryos ! That’s excellent news ! I wish you all the best of luck for the transfer and rest of your journey !! you have a solid start already xx
May I ask , as I don’t know much about PGT-A testing, can you still test embryos once they’ve been frozen ? We have only a couple frozen from our last cycle , sadly the third one was 5AA rated and ended up in MMC from our last transfer , so wondering if we should do testing to avoid more disappointments. Thank you !!
Hi, I’m really sorry to hear about your MMC. It’s so cruel. Sending lots of love and strength your way.
I believe you can get frozen embryos tested, however I think you carry some risks associated with thawing and then refreezing. We had cells taken from the fresh eggs before freezing. Hopefully your clinic should be able to give you some advice on this. I wish you all the very best with whatever you decide next. It’s a lot to deal with isn’t it. Xx
Hi Crie, thank you very much for explaining, I did think it must be like with chicken that you cannot freeze twice haha, we'll speak to our consultant and see what they advise, we may just try again our luck without testing and take it from there.
Thank you for the good wishes, yes definitely this journey is a rollercoaster of emotions!! wishing you all the best too xx
