good afternoon,

just a question once you have a BFP when is usually the scan? I thought it would be around 6w? So you can see a heartbeat.?

My clinic has booked mine for 8w and it’s ages away!! 😩

I’m going to be going crazy until then plus I’ve just had to order more pessaries to make it to then which wasn’t cheap.

Sorry I am very grateful for my BFP just don’t want to wait so long to see if everything is okay x

Good news on your bfp. My clinic do 7-8 weeks. My first scan with last pregnancy/miscarriage was 7.5 weeks and this pregnancy was 8w exactly.

I think some do at 6w but depends. It feels like an age away doesnt it!

thanks!! It’s so far away. Last time I had a scan around 6W then midwife app around 8W. Don’t want that to be delayed too. Ahh I hate waiting 😩😩 x

I questioned it and they offered me 2nd December 😊 feel like I can handle waiting that all xx

Hi Fairytale. I used to like scans done at 7 weeks, so if all is well you get to definitely see a heartbeat. 6 weeks is the average time for a first scan, but just occasionally a heartbeat is not detectable. Trust your clinic, as they have your best interests at heart, even though it seems an age away. Try and keep busy, and the time will pass. Good luck! Diane

I had my scan at 7.5 weeks. I then called the midwife that day and they didn’t get back to me so called again at 8 weeks and got an appointment in person with maternity support worker the following week (8.5) and then booking in appointment day before 10 weeks. There is evidence though that if you see a hb at 8 weeks the risk of mc is then greatly reduced. Good luck!!

hey hun , congratulations on your BFP. Because I did my treatment abroad and NHS offered me my first scan on 12th week, I booked my scan with Early Pregnancy in week 6 and week 9. If your clinic is offering in week 8, my advise is to go with your clinic. Because it’s said to have 2 weeks gap between each scan.

thank you. Luckily I messaged my clinic asking why it’s at 8 weeks and they said a new appointment list has come available and was able to book me in soon when I will be 6+2W xx

Congrats!! 💕I would keep testing at home to make sure the line stays dark. If it starts to fade you can call them and get a scan sooner.

thank you! I managed to get the scan brought forward to when I will be 6+2W but still want to test until then 😂 x

I took a test everyday for 12 days 😆 I was a little obsessed!Good luck to you xx

6 weeks is often too early. 7 weeks they should be able to detect a heartbeat. 8 weeks they can be sure. I know it feels so far away. You just get over the 2ww then there’s another hurdle. I’m afraid it does kind of continue like this and you just have to cross your fingers for a while.

thank you! I’ve managed to change it to when I will be 6+2W which I can manage. I think I was that far gone last time and was able to see a heartbeat (fingers crossed) I am so impatient as it is! 🙈 x

Congratulations!! 💜💪🏼 Wonderful news! our clinic do 8 weeks as standard as that is when you should be able to see a heartbeat and some more accurate measurements. As I had heavy bleeding they saw me early at 6 and 7 weeks and whilst it was helpful for me as they saw the cause for the bleeding and that the baby was showing as it should for that stage (sac/fetal pole) in terms of the baby it didn’t really tell us anything as it was too early so I still I had the originally booked 8 week scan before they released me to the NHS standard midwife route. All I am saying is it’s great to get the earlier scan if it helps you but it really doesn’t tell you a lot hence why most clinics do just short of or just over 8 weeks 🤗 just to set your expectations around the earlier scan vs 8 weeks it was such a difference for me xx

thanks!! To be honest I can see myself getting another private scan booked in too! 🙈😂 just want confirm that i am pregnant xx

you gotta do what’s best for you! I had private scans all the way through! Had one at 10 weeks as I couldn’t wait until the nhs 12 week one and even in the red path with nhs which meant monthly scans I still had 3 more private as well, for me it was worth the peace of mind. It was just the ones before 8 weeks that I probably wouldn’t do again unless I was bleeding/cramping etc as they didn’t really show much or give any answers but they can defo be reassuring that pregnancy is progressing and in the right place etc ☺️ By 8 weeks you could actually see something more than a blob and heartbeat etc and by 10 weeks external scan it was so much better! Xx

Great news! My clinic scanned at 5+4 and we saw a heartbeat, but it is normal to scan at 7-8 weeks. At 7 weeks there should be a heartbeat so it should be safe to go then! Best of luck for your pregnancy

Hi fairytale congratulations on your BFP 🎉. At 6 weeks it can be too early to see a heartbeat for most people so I most clinics scan between 7 - 8 weeks to avoid unnecessary stress of not seeing heartbeat and having to go back a week for another scan. Good luck I know it's hard waiting try to find something else to focus on and keep your mind busy. X

Hi Fairytale, I’ve had my BFP this week and have been booked in for a scan on the 8th December which will be 7 weeks +3. It’s seems like a huge wait doesn’t it?!! Now how to keep busy and head occupied without overthinking everything??!! Wishing you all the very best in your pregnancy xx

yay congratulations to you too how are you feeling? I’ve moved mine to 2nd December and I will be 6+2 W. Going to try and keep busy but it’s hard when I feel sick 24/7. 🤢

Well it's probable that with their knowledge of IVF 8 weeks is more suitable. Glad you bought the pessary. They maybe expensive but the baby is to. Good Luck x

congratulations! My clinic also book scans for 8-9 weeks and it is the longest wait in the world! You can get pretty cheap private scans if you didn’t want to wait that long x

Mine do 7 weeks as that's when most likely to see a heartbeat! I was 7+2 and the wait was looooooong 🤣 Good luck x
