Good morning ladies, how can I get a private prescription for progesterone in the UK? I would like to supplement as a precautionary measure after a chemical in July while breastfeeding. I have spotting before my period and a short luteal phase so want to give myself the best chance. I have been to a private gynecologist in Italy who refused to prescribe. I don't really want to spend hundreds of pounds for a private consultation in the UK without the certainty that the doctor will be willing to prescribe .. please feel free to PM me if you have the name of a private obgyn who would be understanding, especially if doing online consultations (I am in the Bath area). Thanks in advance!

Private prescription for progesterone please ?
I couldn't get a gynae to prescribe me progesterone to try naturally for a few months. I had severe luteal bleeding that was considered hormonal but I was told I just needed to have IVF (no NHS funding in my area so I got to spend close to £15,000 rather than try spending a few hundred to see what happens first...) If you find someone please let me know as we are considering jumping on the merrygoround again to try for a sibling. xx
Oh my god that is so tough! Did you try several doctors? I think it is very much a matter of who you see.. i think that even in the UK there will be some doctors who will prescribe it privately . I hope someone has some useful info and i will certainly let you know if I find out !
I only tried one to actually prescribe it (the infertility/IVF doc) but another gynae told me severe luteal bleeding was nothing to worry about WRT fertility(!). The one not prescribing made me feel daft for asking for it so I did not push it with other gynaes, which perhaps I should have. It was a battle to get the right dose of progesterone during IVF but we got there in the end and we got my son, so in the end I have no regrets. Nevertheless, I am so frustrated that the more we know about infertility and miscarriage the more we know low progesterone might be involved, yet trying to get someone to let you try it for a bit is like getting blood out of a stone! Hope you find someone Xx
Hi Azzurra, sorry I do not know of anyone but if you do manage to get details of someone who could provide a prescription for progesterone, please could you let me know (I also have a very short luteal phase). Thanks xx
Hi all. Jumping on here as i have a really short luteal phase (5 days) and short cycle (always has been just 19 days!) i've only been TTC and tracking a few months but naturally really concerned having read up on the role of the luteal phase.
On another forum, i saw Dr Gudi at Fertility Plus in London was mentioned as a Dr who takes luteal phase defects seriously and treats them (I think one woman mentioned progesterone pessaries). I've made an appt. there for January so can report back and hope you manage to get in an appt. too if you haven't found someone already yet! x
best of luck to you too. It’s such a stressful and all consuming time isn’t it?! X
