38 and Low AMH levels

Hi guys

Just received my AMH results in the post (11.1 pmol/L, low fertility) and awaiting my appt in October with NHS clinic to discuss further. So... of course have been talking to Dr Google in the mean time!!

From what I can tell, my levels are normal for my age, but because I'm 38 my reserve is low. As it's over 5 I am hoping I will qualify for the 2 rounds my area should allocate to me.

My partner also has low sperm count of 9m

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would love to hear similar experiences

Thanks xx

Thats definitely not that low, I had the same at 31 and lower than that when retested at 34 and always got around 8 eggs per collection. Your partners count, is that 9 million or literally just 9 single sperm? My husband had very low sperm count <1 million and with ICSI we have managed to have 1 son who is coming up to 2.5 and I’m now 27 weeks pregnant with his brother. I would say you should feel optimistic that with IVF you stand a good chance of having a baby the most critical factor being time as your fertility will start to decline faster the older you get so if you want to have more than one child I would consider embryo banking now using the youngest eggs you possibly can xx

Hi @Missl73

Thank you so much for your reply

Yes sorry, 9million. And that is wonderful to hear, congratulations to you and thank you for sharing - thats really given me some hope!

Embryo banking is a good idea - hopefully I have enough to do this, but even if I can just have the one I'd be more than happy.

Just wish I had started the whole thing earlier :/

I’m 39 and have a similar AMH (12.2) my husband has <1m and we’ve had 2 pregnancies off 5 transfers with ICSI and received nhs funding for the first 2. I have miscarried both but the clinic have always said my amh is great for my age. Fingers crossed you get funding and you can start asap. Best of luck! xxx

Wow thats great, thanks for sharing! X

Mine was 3.4pmol at 39 I was told we would need a donor if ivf was an option and we still had more chance naturally conceiving which eventually we did I had my boy at 41. We had 3 mmc before our baby.

Thanks for the reply -

I am so sorry to hear about your MMCs, that must have been really hard.

Amazing news that you still conceived naturally, theres is so much scaremongering around being 35+ isn't there, but you did it - massive congrats x

My levels were 10.6 at 39 and i was told it was normal. Had 7 natural pregnancies ending in miscarriage and now have my little boy at 40 following ivf. X

Ignore google. Honestly just come on here to speak to people who have been through it. Thanks very much. Totally worth the heartache to get our little guy xx

Hi lovely, my age and amh results were similar to yours when I started IVF: 13ish at age 37. I.e. normal for my age.

Because of this, my doctor expected me to respond “normally” to stims and get 10-16 eggs per round. However, I was a poor responder and got only 4 eggs on my first round, 6 on my second.

It didn’t matter much in the end as my few eggs did fertilise well and I ended up with 5 embryos out of ten eggs in total. Currently so lucky to be pregnant with one of those embryos.

I think what I’m trying to say is there are many more factors at play than just amh, so there’s not much point worrying about it now: once you start treatment you’ll learn a lot more about iow your body responds/ your egg quality!

Wishing you so much luck!

Xxx

Hi Redsequin

Reading this was like looking in the mirror, the first part anyway 😂 similar AMH to me and I’m also a poor responder. Isn’t it frustrating being a poor responder when the AMH is pretty good! It doesn’t correlate AMH and follicle count and I’ve only just really realised that on my third EC xx

Please BE POSITIVE! SOON YOU WILL HAVE YOU CHILD!

2020 my AMH results was 1.10 ng/mL at the same time my husband hashas low sperm quality. My doctor said natural cycle was the only answer. I got devastated, didn't believe it will work and was so pessimistic.

2022 on February I gave birth to a healthy, smiley girl that now is 6.5 months old.

When i aamam reading about low Amh results i always reply back because I ve been there too. You are going to make it. Dont be afraid!!!!🤍
