Gel / shellac nail conundrum...!

Hello,

I have a bit of a silly question and forgive me if its been asked before!

I have my FET tomorrow afternoon and I normally get my nails done every few weeks (gel / shellac polish).

They are in a right state and I really want them done but reading mixed things about having it done close to transfer.

Do I need to worry?!

Thank you for any views 😊

I think if you have been doing them all this time, it won’t be make or break now at the point. The Gel Bottle is toxin free so if your salon has that you could have the best of both worlds.

thanks for your reply 😊 unfortunately the salon mainly uses OPI brand so I decided not to do it! I think if this isis successful then I might do it a bit further down the track. X

Hello, I avoid having my nails done during IVF and FETs as directed by my nutritionist but it's a personal decision. If your clinic says its fine, which my one did then its probably okay. Up to you.

thanks for your reply 😊 I think that's sensible isn't it... We invest so much to get here that going without nice nails is a small price really! I'm going to give it a miss. Xx

sounds sensible. There are also toxic free nail polishes that you could buy too if you do decide you want some colour on your nails.

If it were me I'd have the current stuff taken off before your transfer but not afterwards but I wouldnt have any more put on due to the toxins in it. I'm sure loads of people continue to have their nails done during pregnancy. I'm just very cautious due to a previous miscarriage and not having been able to get pregnant since so if I do ever get pregnant again I wont be using anything with chemicals in and will just be using soap and make up that is organic and doesnt have any nasties in it

thanks for your reply 😊 you're right, better to be cautious I think.

Transfer is late this afternoon but I might just avoid the salon altogether, even to remove. I guess I also shouldn't be inhaling the stuff! Will leave it for a while. If successful will wait till things are a bit more progressed. Fingers crossed.

X

I went nail varnish free for 3 months pre egg collection, but honestly how many perfectly fertile people have used nail varnish their whole lives and have a perfectly normal pregnancy?! There’s so much that’s already on the ‘no go’ list with IVF, if having your nails done brings you joy then go for it!

aw that's so true, when put like that! I think this IVF business just makes you super cautious doesn't it. I still haven't had my nails done and they look terrible! My OTD is next friday. Will decide at that point i think. X
