High HCG at 4 weeks (11dp5dt)... cause for concern?

Hey

I wish I could just enjoy this moment but Doctor Google has terrified me again!

Had my first HCG test at 9dp5dt and was delighted with 301 (especially after our chemical earlier this year ). Today's has come back as 816 so has more than doubled in 48 hours and seems very high for 4 weeks when I look at the normal ranges.

Google tells me this could indicate downs syndrome or a molar pregnancy. Anyone had levels this high at 4 weeks and had a healthy pregnancy and baby?

Thanks xx

I was the same - seemingly very high (similar levels to you) and 2.5-3x increase every couple of days. I also worried as I had gone from two back to back chemicals to these numbers and assumed it must mean something bad. Google didn't help. However I didn't find much to suggest it could be too high or go up too fast and the range is massive. And it wasn't twins which was my other thought. Can't guarantee until you get further along and have the more definitive tests including genetic if you choose to do those, but for me it was just a sign of an early implanter and ultimately a big strong baby :). There's also a theory I think about girls and higher HCG and that was true for me but could be complete rubbish. Have a search through this forum and the pregnancy support forum threads and there are lots of reassuring posts and responses to the same question.

Thanks for replying. I just wish I could enjoy this experience and wish I never googled high HCG. The nurse who called today with the reading said it was a great number and didn't mention anything bad. It's only when I've googled it and it seems highGlad to hear you had similar and went on to have a healthy baby girl. I've read the thing about girls too. IVF and loss completely zaps the joy of this process doesn't it!! X

I'm an early tester and had a decent positve on day 6 so it could just be an early implanted I guess 😊

I know what you mean re worrying and not feeling able to 'enjoy' this - tbh that continued for me and I assumed the worst throughout. I got a very early BFP and bar bleeding and spotting which freaked me out, looking back it was a completely normal and relatively uncomplicated pregnancy, but at the time the anxiety and doom mongering was pretty horrible. I hope it all works out for you and if it does none of this matters at all. Try not to think of it as 'ruining' the experience or feel guilty you're not floating around in some Disney-esq bubble, humming. You've been through a lot so be kind to yourself and if anyone tells you to 'just relax' maybe tell them politely where to go x

Yeah the Disney-esp bubble is never going to happen after chemicals! And thanks you fir your kind words. The 'just relax' is the worst and more than comfortable telling people who say that where to go haha x

I got a whopping 4,300+ at 14 dpt. Like you scared myself silly googling. As I understood it, the Downs thing is about high levels later in the pregnancy (levels are supposed to level off as things progress). I had a double transfer so there's a chance both implanted and then one stopped developing. As I've since had 2 mmc and a chemical trying for a sibling I tend to think that's what happened in my case. My super high hcg level pregnancy was successful and resulted in my crazy toddler. Good luck, hope this continues to be a happy healthy pregnancy xxx

Thanks for replying to my post. Sorry to hear about your losses but congrats on your successful pregnancy! Those are some super high numbers, but like you said if you had two transferred, could have started out as twins. I only had one transfered so very unlikely two x

I'm worrying about the opposite, low HCG. My clinic doesn't do regular bloods but I asked for a test mainly to confirm that the tests I had done at home were correct. My HCG levels were only around 380 yesterday (I'm 17dp5dt). Googling it sent me into a spiral yesterday that it is too low but all the nurse would say is that it is in the normal realm and that I just need to wait for the viability scan in 2 weeks. I don't know what to think now. Has anyone ever had success from low levels like this? I wish I hadn't googled....

Have they not offered you a 2nd test. Lower hcg is fine as long as its rising. They want to see it double in 48 hours usually. If you're in the normal healthy realms though I think it sounds fine. I'm just freaking out as mine is higher than the normal range!

No they told me to just wait for the scan but I'm thinking I should have pushed for a second blood test. Totally freaking out having read far too many posts about HCG levels. I might call them and ask for another blood test. Hopefully your high levels are a good sign! From my (extensive) googling it looks like it can really vary. It's a minefield. Keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

If they didn't offer you a 2nd that probably means they're not concerned. I'm on an NHS funded round so just said I would pay for the blood tests which seemed to sway them. They're not expensive anyway. The peace of mind is better than the constant worrying.I just called my clinic and they've reassured me that my results are in the normal ranges as far as their concerned. I'm going to give Google a break today I think! Xx

Had the results of today's test and it has gone up to just over 1000 so looks like it is increasing as it should be. I'm so relieved. I'm not going anywhere near Google again and I'm just going to wait for my scan and hope for the best. Hope you are getting on ok?

Hi! Congratulations that's amazing news 👏 🙌 😀 bet you're so relieved. I too am stepping away from Google haha. I feel good. Boobs are huge and sore in the mornings weirdly. I spoke to the clinic on Saturday about my high betas and they assured me they're completely normal. Viability scan is 2 weeks on Friday so I'm just counting down the days till then and hoping for a boring and uneventful couple of weeks! Xx
