Third night of stims tonight, my Bemfola injection which looks like a pen leaked 🙄 I’m not sure much went in at all. I hate the pre loaded pen ones! Maybe I didn’t push the needle head on properly. Will it really have a negative impact on my stimulation if this one didn’t really go in? Anyone had this happen before? Can’t believe im only day 3 in and something already gone wrong.

Bemfola pen injection leaked
I usedto think mine were leaking but actually it was residual liquid on the needle from priming. It never affected my stims 😊 xx
Thanks for the reassurance, it was quite a lot though that came out. When putting the needle into the end of the pen the clinic told me to ‘click’ it on, but now I’m thinking it should be twisted on so I think they’ve actually told me wrong 🙄
I think early on in my stims I accidentally did 87.5 rather than 187.5 on 1 dose of gonal F. I was just getting used to it! Didn’t seem to have too much of an effect so hopefully a bit of leaking won’t have too much of an effect on you.
Thank you! It did mean you ended up having to do stims for longer or anything? X
Hey lovely - I totally understand how you feel!
This happened to me with pre-loaded Bemfola pens during my back-to-back batch freezing with a short antagonist protocol.
I don't think it affected how the cycle went that much, comparing the cycles where the leaking did & didn't happen. It potentially resulted in stimming a day or two longer? although one can't know for sure, as there are so many other factors that could make cycles wildly different from one another. But it certainly caused a lot of stress & anxiety!
I'm an ex-lab scientist and v comfortable around the use of needles/syringes, and it was definitely a manufacturing fault.
If it happens again, I would raise the issue with the clinic and ask for a different batch of needles.
For me the needles were called Clickfine and the batch #191062 kept leaking - complained and got given another batch #201094 which was then absolutely fine. The nurse told me that they would contact the manufacturer.
If you need more info feel free to DM me x
Yes that’s the ones click fine! It is so frustrating, I’m confident at injecting myself so can’t really see what I’m doing wrong but it all just leaks out where the ‘click’ meets the pen part! So frustrating. I much actually just prefer the meds where you have to just put the powder/liquid mix into a syringe and draw up and then inject and you put the needle on the end yourself. These modern pens don’t work 😂Do you think tonight it’s worth me clicking the needle on then twisting it to see if it tightens it? It says click don’t twist. But clicking doesn’t seem to make it secure enough! X
Yes, I much preferred just a good old pair of syringe & needle too! It's so frustrating - as if we need any more variables in these already uncertain journeys.
Re twisting - the instruction says "don't twist, just click" so I was following that initially.
But when the leak started, I spoke to a nurse at our clinic who then gave me a new batch and told me to actually twist, saying that they always do. I was confused by the discrepancy of information and in two minds about which source to trust (especially for something that's surely the answer is a simple yes or no!)... eventually I decided to trust the nurse and started twisting with the new batch given.
I can't make recommendations whether you should go with one approach over the other, but if you do decide to twist tonight - I can offer some pointers.
For me the needles never got properly tightened up, as it sort of loses the "bite" and comes back around/loosen. So what I did was to then start twisting it again and when I started feeling a slight resistance I would stop there rather than twisting it further. Not sure if this would happen to you, but if it did, hope this would offer some comfort/reassurance.
Hope tonight goes well & that you get to speak so the clinic first thing tomorrow x
Thanks this is super helpful, I actually tested this theory with my empty pen last night after it leaked and you’re right by twisting it slightly it locks it in but if you keep twisting it loosens again! So annoying as the paper leaflet does clearly state click don’t twist, think they need to reprint their guidelines! X
Hi, has anyone have a similar problem, where the medicine leaked so much out (see the video in the link)? It happened to me on multiple occasions, although I click just as I should (I also tried with twisting) and check that the liquid comes from the needle before injecting.
My doctor does not believe that there is something wrong with the medicine as apparently others do not report the same issue, thus I would very much appreciate your response: drive.google.com/file/d/1hV....
Today I did my first Bemfola and am freaking out because it leaked! I followed the protocol and not sure which part it leaked from Were you able to resolve this problem?
Hey! Sorry to hear this Bemfola was my worst nightmare 😬🥴 yes the needle was the issue so you have to screw it on, not push! That did the job. Even though I was told just to push it on that’s not enough you have to push it on then screw. How did you do it? X
Thanks for your quick reply! I just pushed the needle, as per guidance and multiple video tutorials I had watched 😀 I just checked the discarded pen and it wasn't well sealed IMO. I will be screwing the needle today after pushing, hope every drop goes in 😀 But still gutted about yesterday's lost medication - it's also hard to know how much actually leaked out! Hopefully 1 incident isn't going to affect the results....
Just did the second one - made sure it was as tight as it gets before it gets unscrewed again! I definitely saw the difference. There was still a drop or two that came rolling down at the very end which I think is just a residue from when you let the air out. Luckily I only needed to inject Bemfola twice. One-off slow-release Elonva (lasting 8 days) before this one was a stress-free God-send apparently! 😀
Do you think your experience had any impact on your results? This is the end of stims for me and also a weekend so I won't get to speak to Dr before retrieval. I could try the emergency line to get hold of him but I don't think he would recommend any modifications or a delay without actually knowing how much medicine was lost 🙈.
No I don’t think it made any difference as you still get all the other days medicine so overall it’s a minimal amount you lose, also it does allow for surplus so I wouldn’t worry which I know is easier said than done! The main thing with this process is getting the trigger shot right in my opinion. When is your egg collection? X
Thanks for the reassurance, means a lot coming from someone who experienced it than from friends who are trying to support me in any case ☺️🙈 Trigger shot tomorrow and collection on Tuesday! Any tips for trigger shot or it's more straightforward than this? xx
Mine is Decapeptyl (Triptorelin)... I think different medications are preferred in different countries - I'm getting treated in Spain.
ah I see! Well good luck you will smash it! X
Thank you 🙏 xx
