Hi there, I’ve been having bleeding (similar to AF in colour and flow) since 7dp5dt (11dp today). 1 embryo transferred. My doctor upped my progesterone levels and asked me to test next week. Does this resonate with anyone? Don’t see how this can have a successful outcome to be honest!
AF during tww?: Hi there, I’ve been... - Fertility Network UK
AF during tww?
It does not sound familiar, but my experience may be different to yours. When is your OTD?
Thanks for your reply, it’s next Wednesday 23rd (postponed from today as per my doctor’s advice).
I am afraid on most of my rounds I have got AF early and one round was 7dpt. My doctor told me that even though I was on progesterone other hormones had dropped which had caused it to start
Having said that I have read a load of posts on here about people who have bled because that’s when their period would have been due and they still got their BFP.. so maybe just maybe that’s you too! Good luck 🤞🏻 Xx
Thank you very much! Hard to stay positive but will try xx
I have had bleeding on a failed round, miscarriage and a successful round so it can mean anything really. I always had an accurate result at 8dpt so if it were me I would do a test to find out what’s going on as if it’s your OTD prolonging the agony won’t help any so not sure why your doctor has postponed it. My clinic do say to retest in a few days time and stay on meds but don’t say to skip the original OTD altogether 🤔 I’ve never heard of that. I always test early anyway and on day advised by clinic so if you want to know just do a test lovely 🤗 xx
Thank you, I did end up testing this morning to get some answers and it was negative, which I expected to be honest with this amount of bleeding. Don’t quite see the point in continuing but my doctor saw that my endometrium was still very thick two days ago (21mm) so as a precaution wanted me to wait a bit longer. I don’t see any tissue or clots (sorry TMI) but it’s a continuous medium flow. It’s definitely failed and I just want to plan the next steps. Thanks for your reply xx
This happened to me. I had bleeds during my medicated cycles which started after I had a miscarriage. It started with bleeds before transfer meaning they were cancelled and then the last medicated cycle I had AF at 7dp5dt. My current treatment plan is to do natural instead of medicated cycles. I’ve had one natural cycle and sadly got a BFN but no bleeding until after my test date so it was progress.
That’s really interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry that it didn’t work this time. I hope they’ll investigate what went wrong with me this time around. The nurses suspect that I wasn’t on enough progesterone to begin with. Feels like a trial and error doesn’t it? Xx
It is a bit trial and error. Push to have your progesterone tested - sometimes you have to ask (and keep asking!) rather than expect they will just do it. I really hope next time is the one that works for you xx
Oh no sorry to hear this. I bled from 11dp5dt and on the day I got a BFN, it was very heavy, started brown and now red (13dp5dt). However I bled throughout my pregnancy with my first, brown blood, everyday until I stopped the pessaries. It was the pessaries irritating my cervix. So it really can mean anything. I'd continue the meds until your doctor says otherwise as you never know! Stay strong and look after yourself X x
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, as you say it can be anything. Very hard to wait and persist but I will! Xx
I also started bleeding 7dp5dt 3 weeks ago whilst testing negative. It seems most people who experience this start bleeding about a week after ET. I wonder why?? When I had my follow up meeting with the consultant he said that this happens only 1-2% of the time! His suggestion was I take a daily injection of Lubion in my upcoming FET. I spoke to another poster on here who suggested I also ask for a progesterone test on ET day.
I personally don’t have any obvious issues with progesterone during my natural cycle so thought it was strange this happened during my fresh cycle.
Hi Olive, sorry to hear you had a similar experience. I found it shocking that they don’t test progesterone levels when there’s a percentage of women (pretty sure more than 1-2%!) who bleed before their OTD. My consultant will be offering me the same for my next transfer (Lubion) and I’ve asked for a progesterone test a day before the transfer. Wishing you all the best with your next transfer xx
You’re right, such a simple test could prove so beneficial for so many women. Good idea to ask for the test a day before too - I’ll consider doing the same.
Wishing you all the best with your next transfer too. Xx
I'm sorry that you had your BFN last month 💔 But you know, it mustn't necessarily be something wrong with you or your progesterone levels or anything making it not work. Even if an egg made it to blastocyst there's no guarantee it's a completely normal egg, and if it at one moment soon after transfer started to show features which were not viable, it would just vanish and leave you with a negative. This happens "all the time" with women not having fertility issues as well, but most often they wouldn't even know that they'd conceived before it was all over, and they just had a period that was perhaps heavier or longer than their normal period... But we who undergo IVF, we know it every time there is an embryo on board. So we're a lot more aware when the early losses happen.
With all this said I'd definitely recommend the progesterone supply during FET, as it's shown to increase the chances of a positive outcome, and I know for sure that that helped me to get pregnant with my son (FET with Letrozol boosting before transfer and progesterone-support after).
Hello, thanks so much for your input. While I agree the failure could be due to anything, the nurses said that premature bleeding is most likely due to low progesterone, because progesterone should prevent any bleeding until you come off the medication, even with a negative outcome. Had the transfer failed with zero bleeding, I would’ve considered other factors as well. Congratulations on your son, so pleased to hear it worked out for you and you had a positive story with progesterone. Thanks for sharing xx
