Hi Lovely. Didn't want to read and run! I'm afraid i don't actually know much about FSH, my doctors have always been more focused on AMH alone. Hopefully someone can share an experience of their own to reassure you x
I had such a result. I have been testing as 19.5 -17.5 for 18 months and then all of a sudden last month it was 6.5. Then this month it was back up to 19.5. I thought it was DHEA last month that did that, but I don’t think so. I was very surprised and thought this would be a good round to start IVF, but clinic said no as FSH came back too high this month. It has never been suggested I am peri menopausal though.
thank you for your reply! I just find it all so interesting how everyone is given such different info. I was told it would only go up and get worse! and it's a sign of menopause, which is the only reason they retested.I am on DHEA, it could be that. I'm having my AMH retested in March.
I'm sorry they've cancelled your round. I had a round when my fsh was 19 and it didn't work.
Wow, seriously? AMH can most definitely change as it gives an indication as to how many follicles are active that month and we all know follicle numbers can change. Saying that my NHS nurses didn't think a long peorid of down down regulation affects embryo quality.
she literally was telling me it doesn't go up, only gets worse and fsh only gets higher. and I'm menopausal with a fsh of 6. have you has issues with NHS ?
I think NHS IVF is good if you're young, and the only issue is male factor. Anything beyond that, and they're pretty incompetent, in my opinion. I hated my NHS cycles. First one, they had me on down regulation drugs for 3 weeks, which I absolutely hated. I think after that, my body struggled with the stimulation drugs, and none of my eggs fertilised, which was apparently rare. For my second I was 4lb over the BMI requirement and denied treatment despite me being on my peorid and having 15 follicles (8 more than my previous cycle which im my opinion was brilliant for a 40 year old). They also had me on a flare protocol that raised my LH. Older women usually have too much LH, and using a flare protocol has proven to be detrimental to egg/embryo quality. After that we went to Prague, got my first excellent quality embryo which is frozen. We just finished another cycle, only 3 eggs, find out on Monday if any were fertilised.
Are you menopausal or perimenopausal? Have you looked in to taking antioxidants? To retain follicles?
oh really! they do nit sound like personalised protocols to suit you. I cant believe they did that over bmi, you must have been devastated. I got no treatment on the NHS. they put me in the perimenopausel box and said I had to have a egg donor. even though my FSH is now normal. All my AFC have even between 8-16. but I feel they will never look at the big picture. I've got another round private in March, with a protocol more tailored to me 🤞. That's brilliant you have a excellent frozem and fingers crossed for Monday. it just takes one egg. I haven't heard about antioxidants, I'll do that thank you x
Devastated was an understatement; I feel it really impacted the following cycle, which resulted in a BFN as I cras dieted. 8-16 follicles are amazing, but no, dependent on your CCG policy, they seldom look at individual cases and just apply a blanket approach to everyone. I don't regret my NHS cycles in terms of experience but do regret the wasted time, especially the wasted eggs.
May I ask how old you are?
Here's a list of everything I've taken, but to be honest, I'm wondering if it's worth it. Its expensive, and ultimately, our bodies will do what they want to do regardless.
NAC, CoQ10, Glutathione, Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Quercetin, Qurcumin, PPQ, Resveratrol, Vit D, Selenium, oral and vaginal probiotic, Vit E and fish oil. I also take Chinese herbs prescribed by my accupunturist.
Gut health is also important so plenty of fermented food and bone broth.
Out of this list I'd probably stick with folic acid, vit d, vit d & iron as I'm boarderline anemic, glutathione (it's a master anti oxidant and makes your skin look amazing, honestly, I barely wear make up now) probiotics (orally and vaginally).
I'm not sure if you'd benefit from DHEA, might be worth looking into, but you'll need to have that and your testosterone levels tested before taking it.
I'd also advise following Pippa Campbell on Instagram as she often talks about perimonapusal health and has a wealth of information.
Don't lose hope, as you can still get pregnant with this diagnosis.
thank you so much. I'm really sorry yours hasn't worked out yet. I'm keeping everything crossed for you today. yes i agree, luckily my private clinic understand I'm complicated, but they are saying definitely not menopausal. im 33. its like being stuck in a very emotional tug of war.
I'm taking dhea, folate, ubiquionol, r alpha, n acetylcusteine, vit b, vit d, vit c. thank you I'll look into a antioxidant, that makes alot of sense.
I do accupture as well, which definitely helps me relax.
