8dp5dt + symptoms gone - Can I test whilst on hCG shots? #update

Hi all,

I'm on my 8dp5dt (first transfer with 2 FETs), after a history of two miscarriages.

The lab messed up big time and didn't have the PGT results ready on the day that the transfer was scheduled for, so the doctor went ahead and transferred 2 FE (5 day blastocysts) anyway. We later found out that one was abnormal and the other inconclusive.

I haven't had a home pregnancy test yet, as I'm on hcg shots (ovitrelle; on days 1, 4, and 8 post transfer), so I'm afraid it might render a false positive.

However, it's been two days now that any symptoms have almost disappeared (no AF yet, as I'm on progesterone). Other than slightly tender breasts, not much else is going on. I don't even feel as if I'm getting my AF.

I've read a lot about many symptoms being attributed to progesterone, but it seems that even progesterone isn't causing me symptoms any longer, which is very discomforting.

I don't know if this is something common, as by 8dp (13 dpo) most women focus on the progression of pregnancy tests instead of symptoms.

My Beta test is scheduled for the 22th (6 days from now).

When do you think it might be "safe" for me to test?

#ended up with very low beta values - ended up miscarrying (more like a chemical, actually) as soon as I got off progesterone. Doctor said it was an unpromising pregnancy, probably of an abnormal blastocyst implantation.

Hello,

I would hold off testing for now, especially given you’re on HCG shots. I didn’t have any symptoms with my fourth transfer, apart from a bit of cramping on D8 and D9 and I got my BFP. Some people get symptoms, others don’t so it’s really hard to know until you take that test but taking it too early may cause you further stress. Hold fire 🍀🤞🏻💜 xxx

Thank you for responding XOXO13 💙

That's very comforting to know.

I'm trying to keep my hopes up, but there really isn't much to trick my mind with.

Just holding my breath until the beta day, then.

Maybe home test the day before?

Love and light 🧿🦄

Testing a day before beta should be fine, I did that too just to calm my nerves because I couldn’t bear to receive the news via a phone call without me preparing myself first.

In the meantime, try busy yourself like going for a walk, reading, binging Netflix, listening to a podcast or whatever you find calming xxxx

I do try, but it's very comforting to be reminded.

It only takes the slightest thought to derail you sometimes.

Thanks, XOXO13

Hi lovely

Am I correct in understanding that you’ve done an HCG shot today? If so, definitely hold off on testing until otd. HCG can take up to 10 days to leave your system, so even testing in 6 days’ time seems a bit too soon to me. Maybe double check with your clinic? xx

That's correct, soccerkt6.

I had one this morning, one 4 days ago, and another on the day of transfer.

That's a lot of hcg, you are right.

The doctor wrote down the testing date for me, so I'm guessing it is what he intended.

I might actually check up with the clinic in a few days, I truly appreciate your reply xxx💙

I’m in quite a few forum and sooo many don’t do that testing as in the Uk if there shows any abnormality they aren’t allowed to transfer and yet it doesn’t mean there will be a problem with the embryo. So many people have gone on to have healthy babies from ones that might have been not given the best shot …. Or low grade etc … wombs the best place for it to have a chance. Sending you sooo much positivity 💜

I had one abnormal and one inconclusive transferred, Yeside, because the lab was delivered the PGT results late on transfer day. We decided to implant 2 on the spot, instead of refreeze. I only found out what had been implanted the next day.

The doctor says that the abnormal will probably never implant, and the inconclusive could go either way.

Loving the positive vibes! Love & Light!

Hi lovely, progesterone can cause symptoms but your body also adjusts to it, so the disappearance of symptoms can simply be that.On my last transfer I didn’t get any symptoms and was convinced it hadn’t worked, but it did.

I would hold off testing at the moment as the HCG shots will definitely show up as a positive. Much love xx

Hi!

Sorry no advise but can I ask why you are taking HCG shots? I had two miscarriages last fall and tested my progesterone levels during the last one and it was as super low at only 6 nmo/L 15 dpo.

For my next IVf cycle the clinic wants me to test progesterone levels on transfer day and give me a HCG shot the day after transfer to boost my natural progesterone. I will also be on cyclogest.

I never heard of taking HCG shots to boost progesterone levels so it’s reassuring to read about someone else also taking it. But you‘re having three shots, that’s interesting.

Good luck and I really hope you will get a BFP!!💫

I have no idea, Barenina.

I was told after the transfer procedure that I would be needing 2 additional shots,

and didn't question it at the time, which was an oversight on my part because, as you say, I haven't come across anyone else taking additional HCG after transfer day.

I am guessing for the same reason as you - aka to boost my progesterone (I'm already on 1 vaginal and 2 oral progesterones daily). I was diagnosed as premenstrual at 39 years and started having irregular cycles and a very poor response to IVF egg retrieval.

Sounds like your doctor knows what he/she is doing for your individual case.

Sending plenty of baby dust your way too! <3

Personally I didn’t test until I was told to the second time as if you test now and you’re negative you still have to test in no man’s land. Even worse you test and it positive because of HCG in the system and then it turns out to be negative. At this point you might not have any symptoms and it might have been the drugs. Try not to pay attention to symptoms and if you can I’d just wait the next 6 days out

Positivechange, I chuckled at your remark.

It is no man's land, for sure! uhhh!

Some days are more unnerving than others.

Thank your reassuring reply. Much appreciated. x o x o
