Covid Vaccine and Booster

This is just a post to share my experience with anyone that may be wondering, worried or not sure about being vaccinated during IVF.

I got 2 doses of the Covid vaccine in between IVF cycles as I was doing back to back cycles of IVF. I think my second dose was 2 to 3 weeks before my final egg retrieval and then transfer in May.

Currently in my 3rd trimester and when the booster became available for over 40s, I booked my booster through the official government website. I also checked it was okay with my midwife who said it was safe to be vaccinated in the third trimester. It was a straightforward process and I got no side effects whatsoever. It has been a week since l got the booster and I still have a very active baby who lets me know of his/her presence with very strong kicks and wriggles 😀

Thank you for this. I’m double vaccinated and due to have my booster on Monday. I was vaccinated outside of my ivf cycles so this booster on Monday is the first one whilst pregnant. I will be 29 weeks.

You’re very welcome! Honestly my experience was extremely straightforward. I am personally more nervous about catching Covid in my third trimester so for me it was a no brainer with the risk of difficulty breathing, going on a ventilator, having the baby born prematurely etc. Still taking precautions despite being vaccinated.

I had my first jab in between cycles and second a couple of weeks before my FET. Just booked my booster for this coming week - will be 21 weeks and am so relieved. Seemed a bit mad not to put pregnant women in the priority groups for the booster given all the campaigns about how dangerous covid can be in pregnancy, but hopefully now they've extended the offer to over 30s it will apply to more women. I don't know if anyone else find this but I've become more out of breath from doing very little as the pregnancy progresses and even that's a bit disconcerting so the idea of covid on top was quite scary.

It might be worth mentioning being out of breath to your midwife or GP as it can be a sign of anaemia. I was found to be anaemic at 28 week bloods even though I eat red meat several times a week, dark green veg, brazil nuts etc. I was getting slightly out of breath but my asthma had been up and down and obviously at 28 weeks starting to run out of space. Thankfully just mild anaemia but now on iron tablets, which I don’t enjoy!! Hope you’re doing well otherwise 😊 I’ve got my third COVID jab in this pregnancy booked for Jan. Bit nervous as there’s no data on having 3 jabs in pregnancy but I just can’t get hit hard with COVID and there’s no logical reason why it would be more of an issue than the first two xx

I know exactly what you mean about being out of breath and I agree with Purpledoggy to check that this is not caused by something else. I was having increased heart rate and some dizziness which was investigated and my iron levels were fine. It was good to discount other causes.

I would also suggest still keeping active wherever you can and drink lots of fluids.

Like you I am scared of catching Covid especially in the 3rd trimester with my huge bump! I agree they should include pregnant women in the high priority groups. The consequences are too severe to ignore but the likelihood of death seems to be their threshold 🤷🏾‍♀️

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m on the fence at the moment t.. wondering if it might not be prudent to wait until my 1st trimester is over before I get my booster shot.

The RCOG say it is safe at any time in pregnancy but you have to be comfortable with your decision. I am personally more scared of Covid than the vaccine. My DH has asthma so we knew we had to take precautions.

Hi I am in my 2ww after transfer and eligible for booster but I don't know whether to wait until at least after test date to get it?

Apologies for not replying sooner. Perhaps waiting after finding out the outcome might be prudent as you do not want to feel like the vaccination impacted on the outcome. I would suggest managing the risk of catching Covid in other ways.
