19 eggs collected now to wait two months for transfer…

Apparently I responded really well to the meds and injections so they ended up collecting 19 eggs! 17 fertilised and 9 embryos are now frozen waiting for us. The doctor said it was too risky to do the transfer in this cycle and to avoid OHSS we’ll have to wait one or two months and try with frozen instead of fresh. They’ve now said we have to wait until January. Has anyone been in the same situation? I wonder if I could call the nurse to see if they could try in my next cycle in December?

I had something similar... I had 18 eggs, 14 fertilised but only 1 embryo...My egg collection was end of july and got pretty ill and they said I have a high risk for OHSS so they didnt do a fresh transfer... I was really upset I had to wait even more as I had plenty of delays in all my cycles but in the end i was really pleased i waited as it took me a month to feel better and we had our transfer in the middle of october and now we are 8 weeks...

But as I said I was very ill after, how are you feeling?

Sorry to hear you were very ill but congrats it all worked out! 🙂I’ve been ok, only cramping two days after the retrieval. When does the transfer happen then? I mean when do you get the meds to get ready and all that? After your period? At ovulation? They haven’t told me anything so I’m a bit lost with all of that. Thanks

To be honest I am not too sure what would be normal as my clinic always found a way to delay everything and for me everything seemed slower than for lots of other people I have read stories on here...My egg collection was end july and the transfer was mid october...

My clinic wouldnt start treatments in december as they are closed at christmas... I had that problem last year... 😔

🤞 you can have your transfer soon... 😘

Hi Sagitaria 👋 We had a similar experience.. 25 eggs with an outcome of 9 embryos. Due to my response to the stim drugs, was told on day of collection that they'd have to do a 'freeze all' and I'd have a break to recover due to high risk of OHSS. By 2 days after collection i felt back to my usual self and couldn't get my head around why we'd still need to wait.. but we did. We had the collection in April, embraced the break in treatment and had some much appreciated time off not thinking about ivf whilst awaiting for the clinic to tell us what would happen next. Started the FET process with the first day of my May period (which was late by about a week and a half - because of the previous ivf drugs). At this point they told us the plan and gave us the drugs/appointments we'd need next. We almost felt like we were starting all over again as the process took longer than we anticipated. For us, the FET process lasted from the end of May to transfer day on 6th August.. it felt like a long time compared to if it would have been a fresh transfer.. we struggled with being patient during that time.

It was all worthwhile though... the first embryo thawed successfully and made itself at home. Currently 17weeks5days.

If you're wondering if they could start in December, ask away. They may be able to consider it, or may give you a reason why they're recommending the wait. There's no harm in questioning it ❤ x

Thanks so much for your reply Milllee! I didn’t know it might take that long for the transfer to actually happen 😩 I’ll call them to see if December is an option, just to check. Congratulations! I’m glad it all worked out for you in the end! 🙂

Hi Sagitaria, I'm in a similar situation. Had 22 eggs collected, 10 fertilised and 1 made it to day 5 blastocyst. I was also diagnosed with OHSS and from the day after egg collection they recommended I freeze. They originally said they could try fit us in in December but they are very short staffed around then because of Christmas but they would let us decide. But in the end we thought about it and decided to give my body the best chance of recovery and wait until January so I would be 100% recovered. Getting pregnant while having OHSS can make the symptoms 100 times worse and we've read of people being hospitalised with it so we decided with only having one embryo it wasn't worth the risk of making me ill just to try a month earlier. I know it feels like everything is a waiting a game. We had a 6 month wait to start because of the pandemic in 2020 and then after 5 failed IUIs had another 6 month wait as I had an ectopic pregnancy. But I guess you always want your body to be in optimum condition so the wait is worth it hopefully. So we've got our consultation in December with a view to start meds in first week of January. Ive been told it will be 2 weeks of tablets (yay to no more injections) then a week of pessarys before transfer but I'm guessing maybe some clinics do it differently! Wishing you all the best xx

Thanks for your reply! It really helps. I guess I’ve been feeling well and I’m just thinking I’m ready for it but the doctors know best so you are right to let our bodies rest so it’s more than ready for the transfer. I also have a video consultation mid December so let’s see what they say. I hope everything goes well for you, keep me updated 😊

Hiya my hospital told me this due to having me on a MODA trial for my adenomyosis but I'm due to get married in August so requested to not have the delayed down regulation and wait but Congratulations on the egg collection wish you all the best for the future.

I think OHSS can make you really poorly so they probably have to be sure that your body is ok and to not put you at risk. I’m waiting for a frozen transfer and have to wait until Jan now. The nurse worked out that if I was to try next month that the transfer would likely be around Xmas day and the clinic is closed then. I feel like I can relax a bit now until Jan and try and enjoy myself. Well done for getting 9 embryos that’s amazing! The dr I spoke to the other day said that the stats at the moment show that frozen and fresh transfer rates are pretty similar. It’s given me hope for mine in Jan anyway. Wishing you all the best x

Ah that’s great then that the stats are similar! Thanks for letting me know. I have to take it that way too. Relax until it’s time for it and hopefully my body will be more than ready! Good luck to you too! Let me know how it goes x
