Egg retrieval numbers are confusing

Hello everyone

I wanted to have an opinion. I am on my second round of IVF. Last IVF in September resulted in 8 eggs in retrieval and then 2 were fertilised but the day of transfer they told me I actually had 5 embryos (late fertilised) . Anyways none of the transfers worked. This time for the egg retrieval they had 16eme , 12 were mature enough to be fertilised . However they called me this morning so 24 h later and only 6 were fertilised . I don’t even know how many will make it to embryos. Is it normal to have such a gap between the number of eggs and the number fertilised ? Has anyone had later fertilised . I hope all of this makes sense… also I have done ERa test came back good . I am 30 nothing seems wrong so any advice would be so welcome

Anyways good luck to everyone !

Absolutely normal, the numbers you mentioned for both rounds. 2nd round for us was 17 eggs and only 12 mature and only 6 fertilised but we were fortunate with 3 embryos. It's hard watching the numbers go down. good luck with this round wish you all the best

You are completely right and I feel bad even feeling slightly bummed out because it is still a very good number. It’s just first time around with only 7 eggs it worked pretty well although the first 24 hours only two were fertilised and then when I went for transfer actually three other had fertilised later so we had a total of 5 embryos. So I was just surprised this time around with the number of eggs being higher that the fertilised number was lower. But this is a lot of numbers and speculations feels like playing in a good damn casino sometimes .. thank you for sharing it does help a lot ! Lots of luck your way !

I get what you mean as well. By being disappointed with the numbers. It never seems enough especially when the transfers won't work 😭. The thing we all want a successful transfer and to avoid another round of IVF as it's hard mentally and physically. My 2nd round with those embryos was success twice and donated the last to a wonderful couple. I hope you get good news the coming days and the transfer goes successfully with an exciting outcome

Glad it gave you some hope and cheered up your day. Fyi ours was ICSI as well. My husband has azoospermia.

Hi Yellowbellow. Perhaps if you have to have a fresh round again, ask about ICSI. Perhaps some of your eggs are a little tougher than the others?? Diane

Hi Diane! I did do ICSI in the previous and this round ! Sorry I forgot to mention it . This time they collected 16eme which was way more than last time but only 12 mature enough and out of 12 6 fertilised. Last time it was 7 eggs or 8 2 fertilised 24hours later. But 3 other ones fertilised later on so total I had 5 embryos ! That is why I am comparing both rounds and the results of this round puzzle me….
