Hi All,
Last year when I was deep in my 4th round of IVF with no hope in sight, I searched on here for success stories from people in a similar situation as myself and found very few, so I thought I’d share my story in case there is someone out there right now looking for a glimmer of hope.
Our ivf journey began in Jan 2020, I was 33 and the outlook was good according to my doc. Throughout the year we did 4 rounds of ICSI, always getting good numbers of eggs, good fertilisation but very low numbers of blastocysts. Out of the 10 we transferred in 2020, only 2 were graded above a C.
By the end of round 4, I thought it was just impossible for us to have our own genetic children and started looking at the egg donor process.
I posted on here asking the community for advice and some lovely people reassured me to not give up hope, to seek a second opinion and have more tests done before moving down the donor route.
My husband persuaded me to see another doctor he had found for a second opinion and eventually we decided to give it one more try with this new doc. He changed up our protocol, added in the growth hormone and even took sperm directly from my OH’s testicles (even though he didn’t have fragmentation). He literally threw the book at us. From that we ended up with FOUR high grade embryos in the freezer!
Because we had already done ten transfers with our previous clinic, he allowed us to transfer two embryos with the hope that one worked…
Fast forward a couple of months and we are 12 weeks pregnant with TWINS!
What made the difference? Was it the new protocol? The change of lab conditions? The growth hormone? The testicular sperm? We’ll never know!
I hope this success story reaches someone who is feeling like they’re never going to get there, and gives them a little bit of renewed hope. Your rainbow baby could be just around the corner!
