So woke this morning feeling like yesterday was a total dream having never actually gotten to the point of having a scan before so to see two heartbeats was just amazing!!
I feel fairly relaxed considering the stakes but am wondering, one twin was measuring smaller than the other. The nurse said this early on they don’t like to correlate the measurements to weeks as it’s so early the angle may be out. So at 6 weeks 2 days the smaller twin measured 5mm and the other measured 6.2mm both had good heartbeats, she said the larger twins was faster but both good.
At this stage she is happy with what she saw.
Anyone have similar and both twins go on to grow strong? I have another scan (private as I’m now discharged) in 11 days when I’ll be 8 weeks.
Thanks x

So with my first scan (it was very early), there was only one and then my second scan a week later a second one appeared. The second one for a little while measured a few days behind but a couple of weeks back it caught up and now they’re exactly the same, both measuring five days ahead ♥️♥️
I believe it’s quite frequent for one twin to be smaller and it’s often not a problem. You’ve heard healthy heartbeats so that’s all that matters.
Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy ♥️ Xx
I’m 12 weeks this Sunday with twins, on my first scan at 7 weeks one twin was measuring a few days behind.. went back at 8 weeks and the smaller twin was still measuring slightly behind.. my nurse said it’s normal in twin pregnancies
I’ll update you how my 12 week scan goes next week
Massive congratulations on your twins, we’re 20 weeks today and it still doesn’t feel real, but we feel unbelievably privileged.
Our twins have always been roughly the same though twin one has always measured slightly ahead.
We were warned at our 20 week scan today that their may be divergences in their growth but with the extra scans any concerns will be picked up. Wishing you all the best with the remainder of your pregnancy xx
I'm like you, cautiously optimistic, nervous as hell to be honest. An early scan at 6 weeks only showed one heartbeat, but you could see there were two there. The second one was lagging behind. Two weeks later there's two heartbeats measuring 8 weeks 2 days and 8 weeks 1 day. Like everyone else says, it seems to be normal. Congratulations and good luck XX
Hi Mai94,I am 22 weeks pregnant with twins. In my early scans one twin was always 5mm behind the other. I had my 20 week scan recently and both twins who should be weighing 10oz are at 12oz, there is only a 6gram difference between them.
So although one twin maybe smaller than the other to begin with, they may catch up.
I had my twin boys in March. One was 5 days behind the other throughout my pregnancy. At birth one weighed 2.7kg and the other 2.1kg. 5 months now and both are almost same weight and the smaller one is now taller. They will level up few months after birth. No need to worry. Enjoy the journey.
