Sensitive- viability scan surprise

Hi everyone,

Hope this post doesn’t upset anyone and hoping someone might have some experience to share with me:

I went for my viability scan today at 6+5 and to my surprise my single embryo transferred has split! So two in there now- both with heartbeats but one measuring right on track at 7.9mm and the other much smaller at 3.9mm. The doctor said either it would catch up or won’t so we are having a repeat in 2 weeks.

Anyone have any experience of something like this and the smaller one catching up?

Obviously I would be thrilled if they both make it although with my history of PCOS and recurrent miscarriage also anxious about the higher risk. The next two weeks are going to be a tough wait! If they do make it my consultant said they will be monochorionic diamniotic so one placenta and two amniotic sacs. Anyone with any experience of this too?

Thanks in advance for any advice, I find this a really supportive and helpful community even though I don’t post much!

Thank you xx

Thank you! I knew it was a possibility as my consultant had mentioned it when I asked about putting 2 back- quite glad we only put 1 now! But still wasn’t expecting it at all so quite a shock xx

Huge congratulations on your viability scan and the twins! Did you have ICSI? This can increase your chances xxx

Thank you! No we didn’t have ICSI, I didn’t realise that could increase the chances but that makes sense. Xx

Thank you very much. Have just been reading up and apparently this only happens to about 1% of single transfers so quite unusual! X

Yes it is quite unusual but it does happen how and then......there was a lady on here a while back that put 2 back and both split......quads! Keep us posted with how it goes, keeping fingers and toes crossed for you.xx

*Sensitive update* just wanted to update you as was very grateful for everyone’s wishes last time I posted. I had a repeat scan and one baby is doing well, measuring right size at 8 weeks 6 days and moving about on the screen. The other one sadly has stopped developing which is a shame but not that surprising in a way as it was so much smaller last time. Also I had absolutely convinced myself that I would get bad news about both and have been very anxious the last few days so that even having one ok is a relief! Just hoping this ones stays on track as a long way to go still.
