Blood thinning injection storage

Hi all

I have been told there is no harm in me taking blood thinning injections. Although I don't have the blood clotting issues based on my blood tests. But it may help to prevent clots should they form.

I need some advise on how to manage taking these injections. I have been told they have to be kept in the fridge.

Has anyone been on them and what did u do if you wanted to go away from home? Anyone go on a holiday with them how did u manage that?

Can you take them out of the fridge for a few hours?

Hi there, what blood thinners are you on? I’ve been on Dalteparin for a while and it doesn’t need to go in the fridge (nor does heparin). X

Thanks for your response. I have been told its clexane and needs to be in the fridge. I'll ask if I can take the two that you mentioned instead. How did u find the injections?

I’m on inhixa, which does not require refrigeration x

Thanks I'll note this one as a possible option to use instead of the one they are putting me on.

I also been been on 3 different blood thinner injections and none of the them required fridge storage. Check again if you need to keep them cool 🙂

Ohhh, mine has never gone in the fridge! They sting and I bruise a little but they’re manageable. I’ve been on them since I started Stims and I’ll stay on them until I’m 34 weeks (I’m currently 12). Xx

I have been on clexane and tinzaparin and neither needed refrigerated. However, you can buy little cases with cool packs in designed for insulin. I used one in the past to take IVF medication away for a weekend. I got mine from Amazon. It wasn't expensive.

They were totally fine, I also had to take them after birth for 10 days and I only had one little bruise one day. I found the injections much easier than the other things we take during treatment (tablets and pessaries) but all worth it and good for you for trying something else xx

Congratz on the birth of your little one. If you don't mind me asking did you have any issues with clotting?

Twiglet2 profile image

No none, apparently I was at a higher risk of clots because I was over 35 though xx

I'm 36 and didn't mention that in my other treatments. I hope this is the last one I have to do and the injections are worth it. Thanks for your advice.

What blood thinners are you on?
