If a pregnancy test comes back negative when it is taken 21 days after intercourse is that reliable or have I taken it too early?

That’s reliable, generally 14 days after ovulation is the window x

Number of days after intercourse doesn't really mean anything as you may have had sex days or even weeks before ovulation depending on how long your cycle is. If you don't know when you ovulated, you will need to wait until a missed period to take a test and get a meaningful result xx
