Anyone fall pregnant naturally after failed ivf and in their 40s?

I am 42. I am indeed blessed to have a DD. I had one miscarriage before her but conceived her three months later for a trouble free pregnancy but now we have been ttc a second baby for three years with nothing to show for it.

I had 5 miscarriages in 18 months so a consultant suggested ivf with pgt testing. We did this and got 3 good grade euploid blastocysts to day 5/6. Yay we thought, only every single FET with them failed. Not even a whiff of a pregnancy or implantation success just huge bfn. We don’t really have the money to pay for another round & I’m not sure it will work as none implanted. At least naturally we get pregnant and pass the first hurdle. How can all three normal embryos fail?

Are there any success stories of women who tried naturally after ivf and it worked? And were any of u over 40? Or can you give any hope?

It does happen Unicorn! Hasn't happened to me yet, 😭but I'm living in hope. People pop up on here with just this situation fairly regularly. I have no children, and have one more IVF cycle to start next month, but after that we REALLY can't spend any more money on IVF and will have to rely on trying naturally. Indeed, this forum makes me feel very fortunate to even have that slim chance of getting pregnant naturally, as so many don't 💔 So don't lose hope. Do all the things you can do to make your eggs the best quality they can be, and you never know xx

Thank you for your kindness. It just seems like we wasted 18months on ivf and all I got was a natural pregnancy and another miscarriage out of it. Not even an implantation with ivf. I don’t want to do donor eggs yet…

Hi Unicorn787, I haven’t got a success story but wanted to say, I’ve heard so many stories of things working out naturally. I did want to mention, because your euploid embryos failed, have you looked into a miscarriage specialist or immune testing? I have also had a previous pregnancy (ivf) but 7 failed transfers since. I have been told there is a possibility immune issues can occur at any stage, even if you have previously been successful. It could be worth looking into as in your circumstance, you can’t put it down to the embryo. Wish you all the luck in the world xxx

Thank you. I went to Dr Gorgy but just having the tests was £1500 & then treatment ranges from steroids and blood thinners which I’ve already done twice and failed or lit therapy which is £800 a shot or ivig which I think is £1k? I’m not sure we could afford the treatments. Maybe we just have to get the tests done and see what comes of it. It’s just money is tight and we can’t really afford anymore expensive tests to do…

I think it’s a strange one for us as much of your thought process (exactly like mine) is that it seems impossible to conceive.. but then at the same time we have conceived in a way that by comparison, seemed easy. So we know it can happen, we just can’t find our way to make it so. I agree about the expense. If someone told us it would guarantee success I’m sure we would funnel all of our money into it, but not knowing if all of the tests and extras will yield any better results is a hard pill to swallow.

It seems everyone who does the extra testing warrants the added extras, it’s hard to know whether it’s because they are the only ones doing the testing or whether the tests are valid.

I would say that the fact you know you’re producing a good amount of genetically normal eggs is a massive plus point to start with. Along with good sperm. Hard to get your head around the “luck” part of it, but maybe that’s what it comes down to??

Thank you. It’s reassuring to hear my thinking is normal. In the beginning you can imagine being pregnant, conceiving, having a child in your life but with this now I can’t even imagine being pregnant anymore. Maybe we just need to stop everything and hope some luck will come our way too…

I have been to prof quenby and seen Lesley Reagan at st marys in london. I’ve also been to local recurrent miscarriage clinic and had all the tests run with no outcome. I had a slightly raised clotting profile with prof Reagan which is why she suggested aspirin only from bfp and I’ve had two biopsies done in Coventry for nkc. We used intralipids and steroids for the second transfer and steroids only for the third. Made no difference I have yet to try them in a natural pregnancy though. I tried it with the last one but it ended in miscarriage due to chromosomal abnormalities. I’m on the wait list for Dr Shehata but otherwise can’t afford any other expensive tests as ivf was more than we hoped to spend…

It just seems like how can I naturally conceive after so many miscarriages?

I’m sorry for all the failed transfers you have had. I don’t know how you have managed to get through so many. It’s so stressful waiting for the result… I hope you have more to try and one will stick like super glue for you.

I’ve not had ivf but we kept conceiving naturally but mc (3) had tests done nothing found no talk of ivf as dr said we’d have a better chance naturally as my Amh was low, I had a hsg then 2 chemical pregnancies then conceived at 40 again and had my baby at 41. Tbh I had given up my eggs must have been too weak but we must have had a strong one left.

Thank you for that. It’s just hard to believe it can work sometimes as it all seems so hopeless. My AMH was 10.6pmol/l and fsh 6.6 on day 3 but that was 2 years ago at 40 so who knows what it is now. The embryos I got were good grades and the last one put back was a 6BA so why none of them worked I don’t know. I guess it’s this that makes me wonder if I couldn’t fall pregnant with ive with good normal embryos then how on earth can it happen naturally… I guess it just takes one…?

It happened to me. Pregnant after unsuccessful IVFs. Super low AMH here and my one blast wasn't even good enough to be tested. It was BFN. Had IUIs after and got blighted ovum. Finally fell pregnant naturally at 41. Also my 42 year old friend just got pregnant naturally after 20 years of battling infertility. She has one IVF baby and now this natural pregnancy.

Wow that’s amazing. Did you do anything different? I keep wondering if I have missed something like immune issues but that’s £1500 to be tested let alone treated…

It’s like I just want the secret recipe and maybe it’s just good old sex and love thank u so much for your replies as it really gives me hope…

Lol yeah....we couldn't even do the sex any longer after so much trying, so ended up using at home IUI kit. I didn't do anything different to be honest other than having a plan B (DE embryos on ice) as my next step. Maybe knowing that took all the pressure off and my body was just relaxed and ready. Although I do believe it just comes down to catching that one good egg, which is not easy after 40. I do have thyroid issues, so had to make sure TSH was at 1 while ttc. Also, I did know my husband's sperm was top-notch as we did all possible tests in that beforehand.

I have thyroid issues so so take levothyroxine for it for the last two years and we have had the comet test done for DH sperm and he has loads and all great so no issues there…. My cycle failed a week ago for the last euploid embryo so it’s still raw and fresh…
