Eggs collected today. My goodness I’m in a bad way, I was awake through the sedation and it was very painful and I had a bleed, low blood pressure, high heart rate.
Is this normal?
I also feel tight under ribs and moving really, really hurts even going to the loo.
This is so bad, I don’t know how people do this more than once unless I’m a one off case.
What can I do to feel better?

Gosh how awful! Were they aware you were awake? I don't really know what to advise but I'd speak to them about how you're feeling, the stress of the experience probably hasn't helped but don't think you should be feeling this rough. Hope you feel better soon x
What you've experienced isn't normal. When I was sedated I wasn't aware of what was going on or any pain etc. Also only minimal bleeding and pain after.
I would ring your clinic to let them know how you're feeling.
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience hun, I would say based on my egg collections what happened for you isn't normal.I went under with the sedation so had no pain during the procedure, only minimal bleeding afterwards, and although I was tender for a few days I wouldn't really call it pain (and no pain going to the loo either).
I really hope you start to feel better and your clinic can offer support.
Trapped wind is very normal. I was severely bloated for a week after the procedure with pain that went up to my shoulder. So sorry that you a had a painful experience, hope you're feeling better now.
That doesn’t sound normal. I was given something for the pain and awake during my procedure. When I got up off the table there was blood on cotton balls but nothing concerning. I would get a check by my family doctor after to make sure everything inside is good. Just cause sound sketchy. Good luck hun.
Definitely not normal. I feel terrible for you. With both of my collections, I was sedated and did not feel anything. Neither do I remember anything. I had a fair amount of pain (cramping) after the second time but the clinic said it was because of all the progesterone I had started. If you ever need to do it again, hopefully not, make sure the anesthesiologist knows and takes your experience and concerns seriously. Best of luck for this round. Xo
My clinic used seadtion, for my 4th round they changed to conscious sedation. I was worried about this liquid paracetomol and phentanol or something like told me not to worry it'd feel like I'd had 6 gins... More like a lager shandy.. I nearly hit the roof with the pain. No doubt a cost saving exercise moving to nurse led sedation rather than paying a qualified anethatist. Was sobbing on the table kept telling me to breath. Sorry I've got a man with a rather large needle and his face in my vagina causing me serious pain it was all I could do to stay laying down. bled really heavily aswell. Never bled before so think he hit something. Recovery was horrendous was in pain for almost 5 days. I won't be using that clinic if I need egg collection again. Made a complaint they told me most women have given positive feedback to the change. So must of been something wrong with amount of drugs they gave me.. was a really traumatic experience.I hope you start to feel better soon and good luck with your journey. It's a tough one made tougher when it doesn't need to be I think sometimes xxxx
Sounds awful and much more traumatic than mine. I was awake on the first round with just a painkiller an hour before and a conscious sedation drip when I got in there. Those did absolutely nothing. I could feel everything and I was completely awake and with it, talking to the consultant and nurses. It was painful and I was gripping the bed wishing it over but not horrendous and I thought it was normal. The needle/tube also broke so they had to sort that out. They said how great it was that I kept still so I thought it must not just be me that finds it painful. I bled quite a lot after for an hour or so, then it stopped. I also fainted a few times. But then ok the following day. That was NHS and they said that's all they offer - possibly for costs reasons. On my next round I went private, expecting the same thing but they did heavier sedation and I was out like a light and felt like I came rounds seconds later, all done. I only bled a little that time and felt fine after, just a bit sore (and very bloated, but am beginning to get used to that). So I think there's a difference between clinics as to what they offer and then for some people the meds don't seem to work (not great to find that out at the time). It also sounds like yours didn't go as planned if there's bleeding and you're feeling so unwell. I really hope you're recovering but if you're worried check with clinic and GP x
I had a very similar experience my last round. Sedation didn't work and I cried the hole way through they didn't even collect all eggs . My partner was fuming when he seen me afterwards. He could understand as I had no memory when I had my first collection, was in a serious amount of pain and had a fair bit of bleeding. Due to start a short protocol in a few weeks, hopefully egg collection isn't as rough next time round. Love, luck and baby dust to everyone 💗 💓
Thank you, I had the short protocol this time. I thought I’d have been put to sleep but I clearly wasn’t. Everything was foggy but I was aware of what was going on - and I was really shouting!
They said to me after, perhaps my anxiety over the whole thing was why I wasn’t knocked out. I don’t know, but it was awful.
I hope you have a better experience than last time, I take my hat off to you I think this put the nail in the coffin for me.
While it was a very unpleasant experience, I'm hoping I can't be that unlucky again.😬 We have done two IUI and two rounds of IVF with two embryos implanted both times. 😭 never had a BFP. I'm irish and unfortunately we don't have any funding here yet so have been paying privately. I am throwing everything at it this time I've looked into fertility acupuncture and have booked into a few sessions while going through this round. 😊 please mind yourself, and remember you stronger than you think. X
Keep an eye on the pain and if it gets worse, definitely call your clinic. Shoulder pain is not normal and can be a medical emergency. I was aware during my first egg collection and I made sure for 2nd and 3rd that the anaesthetist was aware during the pre-op and it was all recorded in my notes. As was low heart rate and need for medication for this x
Thankfully it has died down. I just hope I end up with a blastocyst on Tuesday. It’s still painful inside my tummy, I really didn’t expect it to feel like this. Xx
