Just had my eggs collected, after having 18 follicles in scan only 8 collected? Is this a bad thing? I’m just worrying now 😩 any one any advice? X

Hi Khess! Congrats on getting 8! 8's good!! Not all follicles have an egg and so it can be hard to predict how many eggs you're going to get. Did your clinic prepare you for this? This is not a bad outcome in the slightest, but I know if you're expecting 18 eggs, it might come as a shock! Lots of love. xx
Thank you! Honestly my mouth dropped when the OH phoned me, it’s hurting me tho, which has shocked me because everyone says it’s not painful but it’s killing me 😩 xx
Hi Khess. I had the same numbers. 18 follicles during my scan so took the trigger shot that day i was so positive. Im 34.
Then on the day of EC they said they collected 10 of which 9 mature. My mouth dropped open as i thought thats strange. Then my good news was that 6 fertilized with icsi and 2 were usable on day 5. Did i wanted 4 or more frozen embryos? Yes! But then there are cycles that are cancelled or dont produce any usable embries at day 3 or 5 so should we happy with 2 ? Ooh yes! Take it step by step i hope you get a high number fertilized. Wishing u all the luck xx

I haven't reached that stage yet, but I'd be so happy with 8! I've heard a bit that it can be painful after so I don't think you're alone. Make sure you rest up and relax, it sounds like it went really well. Sending good toughts your way x

Hey lovely / this is completely normal.. this whole process is a series of highs and lows and I always think about it like a hurdle race! My first cycle we had 14 on the scan and they got 3 eggs and all three fertilised. This time (round 4) we had 18-20 follicles - got 12 eggs but only 2 fertilised normally so had more but poor quality. 8 is a great number and remember it’s quality not quantity and I bet they are cracking!
Just to add I ended up on Pethodine and Codeine after my EC on Friday - I promise it eases really quickly, rest up today and dose yourself up on painkillers

Hi Khess. Sorry for the disappointment, I felt similar after my last scan when viewing the growth chart and learning that some are not likely to make it to the required size/maturity at egg collection, however as already mentioned, 8 is a good number to start with. Wishing you the best for the next stages. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🥰
8 is great!! I only got 7! I remember saying to the nurse when I was sedated if I got more than 5 I'd be happy (it's about the only thing I do remember saying lol). It's a total numbers game as you may have follicles that don't contain eggs. And it only takes 1!! Just rest up and take it easy, I remember feeling discomfort for a few days, you are able to take cocodamol for the pain though but just read you're allergic 🙈 might be worth asking your clinic if they can recommend anything else. Fingers crossed for some good embryos 🤞❤

I had so much pain I couldn’t walk laugh before nothing. I felt like I had had open stomach surgery. When I came to they had to give me morphine I was crying from the pain and then anti emetic because I was feeling so sick. One of the most painful things I’ve gone through and I’ve given birth so I Understand you! Took me almost a week I hope for you less!
Thinking of you lovely. I’m feeling like an absolute bag of yuck after mine. Spent most of my morning/afternoon throwing up & trying not to faint. Will all be worth it ☺️ Congrats on 8 eggs! Xxx

Mine went okay, got 17 eggs from my one little ovary. But due to my PCOS, expecting that to drastically drop 😩. Think I may be developing mild OHSS currently on the sofa unable to lay down with my tummy bloated all the way up to my boobs & shoulders in agony 😬. Hope you start to feel better! Xxx

I had 12 follicles and only 6 🥚. I think the embryologist made it sound worse than it actually is. 8 it’s a good number. Good luck 🙏🏼

I had 31 follicles and they collected 12 eggs. I wasn't surprised though as my clinic gave me a graph after each scan which potted the size of each follicle. Those under a certain size (can't remember now the measurement) are unlikely to contain an egg. It will also correlate with your estradiol blood test levels. I was in pain before egg collection and even more after, that bit did surprise me I hadn't really thought I would be able to feel my enlarged ovaries...yikes! 8 eggs is a great number though, good luck x
Omg 🙈 31 follicles! I bet you’re so uncomfortable, I’m still in pain today but have had a phone call to say 6 of my 8 were good and 5 of them have fertilised so far so fingers crossed 🙈 hope all goes well for you! X
That's great news, makes the pain worth it to get good news. I remember this time being the worst for me, the waiting to find out how many would make it to day 5. Out of my 12 eggs only 7 fertilised, but I did end up with 4 x 5-day blastocysts. I transferred two back in December and I am currently 17 weeks pregnant with one! xx

To some extent it is a numbers game, but 8 is a good number. Quality is just as important. On my first attempt I had 12 eggs but only 6 fertilised - 1 made it to blast at day 5 and ended in chemical pregnancy. This attempt I only had 8 eggs, 7 fertilised (with icsi this time) and 2 made it to day 5, I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and have a frostie too. Xx
Hey there I only had 9 eggs taken from 11 follicles, 6 fertilised, and three went on to 5 day blast stage, with one little one being transferred successfully 
So try not to worry too much about the numbers x

Well done, that's a brilliant result! From me, they collected 8 follicles, 5 of which were mature and 4 that fertilised and resulted in 4 very healthy blastocysts.
Sadly, 2 days ago I got a BFN so I am devastated. But I've picked myself up, were seeing our consultant tomorrow and we're going for it again!
It sounds like a really good number, and its definitely more about quality than quantity . How old are you? I was 40 last round, had 10 eggs but only 2 made it to day 6. They weren’t good enough quality to survive double pgs testing and implantation. This time at 41 they collected 11 eggs as they stimulated me more. I’m trying to stay realistic to avoid disappointment. I think that each round the doctors get more clued on to how you respond and think that you have a better chance of success each cycle. I’m relieved this round as they can genetic test without ruining my embryos!
Oh hun I hope the next round goes better for you! I’m only 22 which I know is young but I’m just as desperate for children as anyone else on here and I was just disappointed at first with the eggs but so far 5 have fertilised so hopefully it’s good news from here! Xxx
Hi. This is not completely normal to the poster that said it was!! It is called empty follicle syndrome. I had the same, 22 follicles and 7 retreived. They say it has to do with the trigger shot (i will do double trigger next round) or the trigger wasn’t taken properly or the egg collection timing wasn’t right. Regardless, this is not normal, and can be fixed in some cases with different stim drugs or trigger.
8 is a good number! I've never got an egg in every follicle. Don't worry at all xx
