Utrogestan progesterone pessaries

Hi guys wondered of anyone could help a girl out I had my ER yesterday and started my first progesterone pessary last night. What an ordeal, I have never used tampons or anything and I found it difficult to know if it was in the right place and high enough, it comes with a weird applicator that the plumber doesn't really plunge much😒

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use lubrication to help this process a little.

How are we supposed to insert these pesky little things 3 times a day and lay down for half hour for up to 12 weeks😳 what about work etc?

I had some brownish discharge this morning I'm guessing it's normal after yesterday?

I maybe making this out to be more than it is I'm just struggling abot with it :(

I’ve never liked applicators. They make it hard to know what you are doing or how far up you are. I use my finger and push the pessary as far up as I can - all the way to my cervix.

If you use lubrication, make sure it has no oil or anything in it that may interfere with absorption of the progesterone.

I never lie down for half an hour afterward. It doesn’t say to do this on the instructions I have. It’s never caused me a problem to just get on with my day once it is in. I DEFINITELY recommend wearing a panty liner, though. The wax casing will melt and come out, getting everywhere. It can be extremely messy.

It will get easier for you, I’m sure. Best of luck. xx

I always use the "back door" as it's much easier and less messy. They absorb just as well xx

For the first time, I’m using them back door and it doesn’t leak like it does when I use them vaginally. I do sit down for half hour, but I do mine morning and evening so factor it into my timings! Xx

I used pre-seed when we were trying to conceive so used that to help insert. I hated the applicators as I was worried they would start to cause trauma. I started off with a bit of an odd method that worked perfectly-insert the pessary a tiny bit with a finger then use an applicator tampon (one of the stiffer cardboard type, leave the tampon inside its applicator) inside the finger of a medical glove (eg nitrile) with a little pre-seed on the outside of the glove. The length of the tampon still in its applicator is a perfect length and it was much smoother than using the Utrogestan applicator. I reused the tampon+applicator as it was always inside the glove and never took the tampon out. Around implantation I had a tiny bit of spotting I thought might be the pessaries irritating, which is super common, so switched to just inserting a finger length (I still use gloves for hygiene and to protect from nail scratch) and have been doing so ever since. Now 9 weeks. Please don’t switch to back door without discussing with your clinic-for me, using the back did not achieve good endometrial concentrations and caused early bleeding and BFN even though on a higher dose. Utrogestan are only licensed for front anyway. XX

Hey! I read on the website if you’re having trouble to wet it with cold water before inserting. I prefer the applicators because it’s gets it nice and high up. Some clinics say to lie down, others don’t. Just do what works for you! If you’re stressing then that’s not helping anyone. X

I was told you can’t use the Utrogestan pessaries in the back door otherwise I would definitely be doing that.

I use the applicator because it gets them in nice and high. I make sure I take a big breath out as I put it in as that relaxes the muscles then as I press the plunger I tense up to sort of hold them in place while I pull the applicator out. I’ve found they come back out with the applicator otherwise. And definitely wear a panty liner 👍🏻

Luckily for me I am only doing them in the evening. I was really stressed doing my first lot but honestly it gets easier.

Thank you all for replies, yes I also tense up when withdrawing as I feel it will come out. I try and get up as high as I can I just find it difficult as I've always struggle with pain dryness etc.I too worry about trauma, I do have pre seed and am going to ask the clinic if its OK to use.

Is it normal l to have cramps afterwards? Xx

I did get a few mild cramps initially from the progesterone yes. I think as long as it’s not too bad it should be fine. Plus don’t forget you have just had your ER. I definitely had cramps after that!

It's so good to hear that these symptoms are normal, as someone who suffers with anxiety it's really reassuring thank you xx

The applicators were very useful for me since I wasn’t confident in any other method. Regarding the gel, I kind of understand what you are saying, but I felt the texture of the applicator is such that it slides easily into the body. Just ensure that you are really slow while using the applicator. If you can just try to take in deep breaths while you are using the applicator, nothing like it. Also lying in the most comfortable position will help a lot. I would insert them really slow and once it got slightly uncomfortable, I would just stop and release the capsule and slowly take the applicator out.

It took me a couple of days to get used to this. See how you feel and of course you have a lot of suggestions here. You can always go by what suits you the best 😊

Thank you so much! It really helps knowing that other people have gone through it. I did my second this morning it was a little easier than last night.I asked the clinic about lubricant they said pre seed is ok if it becomes sore xx
