2nd round of ICSI, changed to long protocol, what are the side effects like?

Hi all,

I’m due to start my second round of ICSI in the next couple of weeks. First time round I did the short protocol and didn’t get many symptoms, we got 10 eggs, but only 1 made it to transfer and it didn’t work.

This time I’ve been changed to long protocol to try and get more eggs. I’m got mixed emotions going in as not sure how I’m going to respond and although excited to start again now restrictions have been eased I feel like managing the process will be harder.

What are the side effects like ( I’ve heard it’s like menopause) and any advice for dealing with them?

I didn't really have many side effects, I was on buserelin for down reg and I found it gave me a niggly persistent headache but other than that I was fine! Good luck x

I was dreading the menopause, too.

Effects kicked in after appx 10 days.

Hot flushes, headaches and a bit tired. Bit of joint pain

But not as bad as I was expecting.

I also mostly escaped without significant side effects during downreg. The odd hot flash and a bit of feeling 'odd' and not with it, but that was mostly it. On my second round I had to downreg for 3 weeks and was starting to feel a bit naff in the 3rd week, just out of sorts, but I knew it wasn't permanent so just tried my best to ignore it and made sure I ate well, drank plenty of water, and treated myself when I needed to. xx

I've down the long protocol twice now and personally (fortunately) I was pretty much fine. Both times I was on buserelin and meriofert 225 for stims. Bit tired some days and a few headaches. One or two intense dreams 😂 But otherwise nothing. Hoping it'll be the same for you x
