So I had bloods yesterday prior to starting IVF, my thyroid test came back with fractionally higher than they would like so they are putting me on some medication to bring it down. Has anyone else had this? I’m wondering if I should approach my GP to get the medication (ivf is private) and if I this is just a thing I need to treat whilst having ivf or if it’s going to be on going?

Over active Thyroid
If you don't mind me asking what was your thyroid levels. I had mine tested in October and it was 2.76. But now I've been told they want it below 2.5
What medication are they putting you on to reduce it?xx
Proper thyroid level is one of the most important things for a successful pregnancy. My IVF clinic wouldn't even begin treatment until my TSH level was under 2...ideally under 1 while ttc. For some reason, GPs do not understand TSH levels for pregnant women and women ttc should be different from the usual levels, which allow for much higher TSH. If you can find an endocrinologist that would be best.
You can get the meds through your gp. For fertility, your thyroid level should be under 2, but preferably nearer 1. When I conceived I was exactly 1.0
Hi Zebedee1971 I had my thyroid tested October last year and my levels were 2.73.My local gp said was normal and no concern so I thought nothing of it and didn't mention it to my private clinic I am using for IVF.
I recently went for an era test /endometrial biopsy which came back with a lot of things I need to change. Also they mentioned my thyroid needs to be below 2.5
What medication do they usually prescribe to lower your thyroid, do you know how long it usually takes to bring your levels down ? Xx
It's usually levothyroxine, I'm on 25mg which I should imagine you would be on too, as that's the lowest amount you can get. Takes a couple of weeks for meds to kick in, maybe 3 weeks or something along those lines
Hey,
I’m on long term thyroxine as my TSH levels fluctuate often, with the highest prior to treatment being 5.6. With 50mg thyroxine daily, my TSH is stable now at just under 2.
My endocrinologist likes it below 2.5 whilst TTC but my fertility consultant says anything below 4 is fine for a healthy pregnancy according to the latest research.
I prefer mine below 2.5 however as most other clinics and opinions tend to lean towards these levels.
Xx
Hi.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's/underactive thyroid by a private endocrinologist while TTC. You are entitled to free prescriptions so I started off with a private prescription and then asked the GP to prescribe.
I was advised to check levels again after 4 weeks, but some say 6 weeks. I have been checking mine periodically privately via Medichecks and occasionally on the NHS.
Good luck with your IVF cycle x
My private ivf clinic did‘t even bother to check my THS level prior or during my cycle. But my gynaecologist made a thorough exam after my BFP result came in and recommended to keep it under 2,5. I am on a 25mg tablet a day since then which I need to take 30min before breakfast.
