Thyroid 😢

So I am about to start my first cycle of IVF. I’ve been feeling really optimistic about it so far. Called clinic on day 1 as instructed which landed at the weekend so they called me back today, only to be told by thyroid levels are above the recommended 2.5. I have to start taking medication ASAP and if it goes back down within the 4 weeks my treatment will go ahead and if not I’ll have to wait 😢. Anyone experienced this before? How likely is it that the medication will have an affect in that time?!

Hi Yes mine were 4.65 I took medication for 4 weeks it went down to 2. It only takes a month to kick in so the sooner you get it the better 😀😀xx

I had same thing and the meds didn’t kick in but they just doubled my dose and carried on with treatment anyway. Don’t worry about it. They said it’s a very new thing they’ve started testing and women have been having IVF and getting pregnant for years without even knowing what their thyroid is. Yours is probably still in the normal range like mine was so don’t freak out about it. I did and then the clinic weren’t fussed at all! Good luck xx

If you have a look at one of my old posts you’ll see I also had this - mine was borderline at just over 4. I started meds in Oct/Nov and mine was down at 1.3 by the first re-run of bloods 4 weeks later!! I could have started treatment again in Dec, but due to Xmas it had to be delayed for Jan.

Get your meds started ASAP & hopefully all will move quickly for you to start in the next month or two!! 🤞🏻 xx

Hey, I know how you feel....this has just happened to me, level was 4.69. Ive started on 50mcg levothyroxine and to be retested in 4 weeks. Fingers crossed this does the trick. Hope you get sorted out soon, its upsetting to be delayed when you're all geared up to go!xx

Thyroid levels for fertility treatment need to be lower than the normal recommended thyroid levels. After 4 years of infertility treatment my friend got this advice from a private clinic. Within weeks of correcting her thyroid meds she conceived on an assisted cycle (ovulation induction). I know a delay is disheartening and frustrating, but it will be worth it. Good luck with your cycle x

Thanks so much everyone! I got an appointment today and started prescription! So on 50mg of Levothyroxine. She said they should kick in on time as I did ask about upping the dose! Fingers crossed. My husband works offshore and we have everything worked around that so really hoping it’s not delayed! Hope yours comes down Cinderella5. I read that it works best taking it first thing at least half an hour before breakfast. I guess glitches along the way are to be expected! Xx
