Hello. I'm afraid I can't answer the question yet but my circumstances are that I was with the NHS for two cycles and was on a long protocol. Since moving to a private provider, they have recommended that I am on a short protocol which apparently produces more, better quality eggs. Whether this decision has anything to with my age (late 30s) or low AMH, I'm not sure.Fingers 🤞

Hi there,I was nearly 39 when doing both short and long protocol. I had a good ovarian reserve and at start my consultant recommended short protocol. I had produced 7 eggs and decided to abandon this cycle after the chat with the consultant as he was sure I can produce more. I have started a long protocol and produced 17 eggs, 9 were measured, 5 fertilised, 2 made to the transfer and just now I am looking at my 8 weeks old baby girl who was born in Feb. Best of luck!

Congratulations, I’ve heard that a long protocol can produce more eggs, I’m 36 and worrying about my age x

I was never told that there is a difference in quality of the eggs between long and short protocol. I produced more in long protocol so I presume if you have low ovarian reserve and you are not at risk of oberstimulation that you will be recommend long protocol. There is also a lot of comments about quality of the embrios, I wouldn't working to much about this. Once the clinic is satisfied that they are suitable for a transfer you should be happy. I read the stories where the highest grade embrioa didn't make it and the average one resulted in healthy babies. Mine was 3BC or 4 BC on a scale of 6 and my baby girl is perfect.

Generally you get more eggs from long but better quality from short, doesn’t necessarily work that way for everyone but that’s normally what they say!

I have done both and my embryos were much better from my short cycle xx

Hiya

Reason for our infertility is low AMH for my age and hubby's sperm

Long protocol resulted in 15 eggs, 6 blasts, 1 negative on the fresh and then 2 miscarriages on frozen. 3 left in freezer of various OK grades (best was a 5AB I think which was the fresh negative).

Short protocol 1.5 years later resulted in 9 eggs with 2 blasts, a 3AA and 1AA. 3AA was negative. 1AA left. We recently tested my AMH again and its actually increased a little.

We used ICSI both times. Apparently they changed me to short as I was at risk of OHSS last time on long and also they were worried about that generally with covid.

If we were to do another fresh at any point (which is unlikely) then I think I'd want to consider doing long again.

Any questions let me know. All the best :) xx
