Hello everyone, I'm sure this has been asked many times but I'm doe to start ivf have consent meeting next Monday but nurse just emailed me and said I will be short protocol. I am clueless could anyone tell me the difference and reasons why I may be short protocol? I am 34 amh 20 and unexplained secondary infertility. Thanks xx

Long or short protocol?
Hello! I had the same question. I was told short protocol is the standard protocol and I have unexplained infertility. Less down regulation (which seems to be a good thing). Not entirely sure when a long would be used maybe someone else could help with that bit. Best of luck xx
Thanks so much. Is this your first time? How far into the process are u xx
It is! I’m in my first round of ivf and 5dp5dt (in the dreaded two week wait!). Honestly the whole thing has been better than expected in a lot of ways. On the short protocol I had an evening injection for around 5 days then added in a morning one. I had a scan at 7 days and then 9 days to check follicles and went in for egg collection day 12. Transfer 5 days later. Everyone is different but for me I am so glad I had a week off work between EC and ET I was uncomfortable and emotional and appreciated my sofa and duvet! I’m always happy to chat during the treatment just give me a shout 😊 xxx
Aww wow fingers crossed and lots and lots of luck ❤️❤️ I would love to know how u get on and pray for good news. Doesn't sound to gruelling and yes think I will take time off. R u working now in the 2 ww? It's an awful wait at the best of time but in this situation I can imagine it is just unbearable lol x
Thank you!! Haha yes it’s so hard to know what to think but going back to work has been a great distraction for me and box sets have got me through the whole thing too! I had a couple of days off after transfer then back to work as you don’t need rest for me it was just letting my emotions settle. Wishing you lots of luck and will be sure to post the outcome xxx
They decide from different aspects- but i’m not entirely sure what they are. I think age, FSH level, AMH and the risks of ovarian hyperstimulation are some parts of the decision making. I’m 36, AMH 11, unexplained primary infertility and was on a long protocol in west London. Either way- ultimately they want you to succeed so I would trust their judgement. The short protocol sounds like less injections though. Good luck!
So long protocol is where they do a period of down reg (usually starts around Day 21) followed by a period of stimulation. Short protocol they do the two things simultaneously from day 1 so it ends up being a shorter round.
I think they usually do short proptocol when there is a risk of overstimulation but not sure why it helps reduce that risk.
Hope your cycle goes well!
