3rd round over - follow-up next week

hi everyone,

I had a BFP on my last round which sadly ended in a chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage earlier this month. This was my third cycle but my first to get to transfer (the other two cycles I didn't get any embryos that lasted past day 3, and I had limited numbers - 3 first cycle and 1 second).

This last round was more successful as I got more mature eggs and a great fertilisation rate (5 of 6) and then 2 of those embryos made it to day 5 and were transferred. I obviously did get a BFP. So in some ways that's progress but I'm wondering where to go from here.

I'm wondering what sorts of questions to bring into my session - I am worried that they'll just say this is a lot better than the first two rounds, let's try the same again. I am wondering if it's worth doing any further testing to rule out carrying issues as well? I've had two miscarriages now - I had one two years ago (almost exactly) and was 11.5 weeks at that point. I know miscarriage is common in my age group (I was 39 then, 41 now).

But is there anything worth checking in particular? I've heard things like growth hormone, immunity tests, blood clotting tests, thyroid, etc.

Thanks all x

Hi lovely, I’m so sorry it didn’t work out and that you’ve had to suffer miscarriage already before. I hope you’re taking some time for yourself to heal.I wonder if parts of a protocol worked better before and parts better now, whether they could look to combine them next time? Maybe theres some tests they can offer you ? Unfortunately in the UK they do not investigate miscarriages unless you have experienced at least 3 consecutively(!)

Hi, I would definitely recommend checking up on your thyroid levels. TSH should be below 2 ideally below 1 to avoid miscarriage. I have Hashimoto's which is a form of thyroid autoimmune disease but with medicine, I kept my levels low and finally got pregnant naturally at 41 after few chemicals and blighted ovum prior to that. It's a simple blood test and any good fertility doctor will insist on checking that first. At our age it's just not that easy to get a viable embryo but it does happen. I realize I got extremely lucky and I was already on the DE route when I found out about this pregnancy.
