Is it good idea to have IVF with own eggs after age 40?
I have no experience, but there are plenty of women out there who had success over 40 with own eggs.... also I think many clinics help with securing egg donors if that’s what you decide to do
Hi Vicky,Have you had any tests done yet, like Amh? I have seen some ladies on here that had successful pregnancies despite being 40 and older. I have low Amh, am now 42 and had 2 unsuccessful rounds of Ivf with my own eggs. Now I've moved onto donor eggs. I think I needed the rounds with my own eggs to know donor egg was the right decision for me. I didn't want to look back, wondering if I could have been successful with my own eggs.
My clinic is running a donor egg service, so they recruit the donors and you have a choice and I think many clinics offer this.
Wishing you best of luck with whatever you decide!!
41 last Sunday and positive test today. I used my own eggs and have very low AMH. Don't rule your own out too early.
I'm nearly 45 and I am still trying with my own eggs. Just about to try my third cycle so no success yet. It's not an option for me to use a donor egg though so I keeping trying with my own. Naturally I am hearing a lot from the doctors about how egg quality is poor because of my age and risk of chromosomal abnormalities but I would still rather try with my own eggs while I still can.
I'm 40, first round failed with 4 eggs unsuccessful fertilised. We preserving with our bits until we can't afford it or it becomes emotionally draining. There are countless posts from women over 40 or those with low AMH falling pregnant naturally or with IVF. It's important to advocate for yourself, especially if clinics are pushing donors (makes their success percentages look better) and find a doctor who'll listen to you and work with you. I'm not suggesting you blindly ignore professional advice but you'll know when it's right for you to consider donors.
thank you ladies for sharing your experiences!! its supportive
It depends from individuals medical history, and how willing you are, emotionally mentally and financially, to try multiple times if unsuccessful. Live birth rates with egg donation are much higher compared to natural birth for women aged 35 and over (especially over 40). I am 40 and after 3 failed IVF rounds and one miscarriage at 11 weeks I’m now 20 weeks pregnant after one round of egg donor. Best decision I could ever take. Good luck 🤞🏻 🍀🍀🍀🍀
I agree with the previous posts that it depends on your medical history and your IVF experiences. I did IVF at 40 with my own eggs and transferred my embryos at age 41. I’m currently almost 13 weeks pregnant. Definitely do some tests before you decide to determine your fertility profile.
I agree with Tough Cookie - it can be a long journey and tough emotionally, physically and financially but it is possible. I started IVF when I was 40 and have done 4 rounds, with 4 transfers, and I’m now 29 weeks pregnant with my own eggs. I had a MMC of twins in 2019 but I was determined to keep trying. I’ll be 44 when the baby arrives. I have a friend who had twins with her own eggs at 47 but that was after around 7 years of treatment. Wishing you lots of luck xx
