Hi All,
Just wondering if there’s anyone on here that has been referred for NHS IVF in Wales? And what the waiting times are like? I’ve had two different timescales given to me from consultants, one saying as quick as two months and the other a year given covid. I’m afraid the latter seems more realistic. Not sure how I’m going to wait another year to be honest. Seems like there’s always so much waiting 😞

Hi catlady. I'm a wales patient, we were told we had to wait on a 12-18 month wait list before we could be seen. I'm due to start treatment end of Dec beginning of jan. We will have waited 13 months from referral into the clinic. Xx
Wow really?! I did not know that! It seems like such a long time to wait when we were referred from the GP more than 2 years ago. I really hope everything goes well for you! Which clinic are you attending if you don’t mind me asking xx
Its a long time isnt it. From our first GP to now its been just over 2 years. I remember having my first appointment and the clinic telling us we had to wait a minimum of 12 months, but couldn't be left longer than 18 months. Patients from England are seen within 4 months I think. I asked why this was and I was told, its the welsh government! Something was said about them seeing if you could naturally conceive in the wait time, then the funding wouldn't be needed - not sure how true that is. I asked to be expedited as we are same sex couple and there is zero chance of us naturally getting pregnant 🤣 we got declined. I'm so grateful for getting funding. We are attending shrewsbury fertility clinic. Where have you been referred to? Xx
It just makes me wonder why the hell didn’t they refer us sooner, it’s only because I’ve pushed we have been now and to think we’ll have atleast a year wait is so disheartening. Like you say I’m so grateful that we get the funding but by the time we get seen we could be waiting 3 and half years plus since GP referral. We’re in Swansea so I assume Neath Port Talbot will be our clinic xx
It may be different in swansea, maybe give the clinic a call for clarification. I really hope its not as long a wait for you. Xx
I'm having to have my treatment in England as they don't provide it in North Wales xx
Yeah I may do that just to find out. This journey is so hard without all the waiting isn’t it. I really wish you all the success! Xx
Its super hard so I totally understand how you feel. I feel like I'm constantly wishing my life away as all I want is to start. Fingers crossed you can be seen sooner. Xx
I couldn’t agree more. I feel like life has passed me by the last few years. I just hope we get the positive outcomes we want after all this 🤞🏻 xx

Before covid they told me 3 months, but now 18 months! So upsetting. Fingers crossed it’s not that long x
