My husband and I recently got referred for IVF after trying for nearly 3 years with no success. I’m just trying to get my ducks in a row before an appointment (I know I could be waiting a while). When do they measure you and your partners BMI? My husband is slightly over the 30 target and I’m worried they’ll turn us away. He’s definitely working on getting it down though.
Thanks for any advice
Xx

Morning, I’m not sure if it’s different in different areas. We got referred at the start of the year and myself and my husband were over the BMI limit but only I was asked to reduce my weight. Once I got below the limit they have agreed to treatment, they are aware of my husbands weight and he is still over the BMI and are not concerned. I would say that the infertility is my issue though not his not sure if that makes a difference xx
It doesn't - we were treated the same though the infertility was my husband's issue
I was told on my first app the weight I should be for 30 bmi so start working towards that as app/treatments can take awhile best be on track from the start. I didn’t get treatment but I did lose weight for myself & conceived naturally.
Like so much in IVF on the NHS, it's a postcode lottery - in some areas they only care about your BMI, in other areas yours and your husband's. Either way, they'll check at the first appt and if you're over, they'll tell you to come back when you've lost it.
Thanks all, really looks like it depends where we are. I’m really hoping he can just lose that little bit extra beforehand just in case. I’d be gutted if we were turned away at this point xx
Hey Catlady, for our NHS cycle my partner wasn’t weighed but I was. We both made an effort to lose weight in hope that it would help our chances anyway though. Best of luck xxx
Hi, good news that you are taking steps forward! In our area they were not concerned about my husband's BMI being over 30, it's 'recommended' that the male partner should be under but not a requirement, I'd check with your CCG. Good luck xx
