Ivf bmi

Hiya, we've been told but the nhs doctor that my bmi needs to be 30 before they will put me forward for ivf. Does anyone know what private clinics requirements are? I'm in Kent. Thank you

Hi Marita15. You can search on the HFEA website for your local clinics (just google HFEA find a clinic) and it should tell you what the criteria is for treatment. I'm in Glasgow and I know the private hospitals have a higher BMI criteria. It's also worth asking your nhs hospital if they would allow you to self fund as that might work out cheaper than going to a private hospital

Thank you I will take a look on that website and see what it says. We saw our Nhs consultant today and I've got to get my bmi down to 30 before they will put me on the list. It was 37 but now it's 35, it just takes so long x

Oh I know exactly how you feel... It seems so unfair but I accept & understand now that BMI plays a really important part in the success of infertility treatment. My BMI was 37 and I started the Cambridge Diet in September last year. I got my BMI down below 30 by Xmas. In total I've lost 4st 10lbs to date and I'm now BMI 26. I never thought in a million years I would be able to lose this amount of weight but my motivation was pretty special. I'm sure my local private clinics would've taken me at BMI 35 so definitely worth looking into x x

Hi ya! I ve been in the same boat as you are. NHS expected me to have BMI 28 before they could put me on waiting list.

i lost 4.5 st and we ve been offered 3 fresh cycles +3 frozen cycles which is amazing and totally worth the time and effort i took to loose weight!

Hi ya! We ve had 1 treatment already but it didnt work. We r suppose to have another one this May -June but i just found out i m 6 weeks pregnant! After 5 years ttc i didn't expect that at all. Its too early to anticipate anything as yet but i really hope we wont use any IVF treatments left and this pregnancy will progress smoothly!

We got very excited and my hubby couldnt sleep for few nights.But now we r started to worry and just hoping all will go well!

I still cant believe and dreading to go back to UK and book an appointment with GP.

Hi! I had the same issue. My BMI was over 40. I paid close to £1000 to go private for fertility tests so I could find out if it was even worth losing weight for ivf and was told at the London Fertility Clinic that they'd consider me at 33 BMI. I got to 34 after christmas so contacted Bourne Hall in Cambridge who have accepted me private on this BMI. I'm still losing weight so planning on this first cycle private and then seeing how things work out. I know I can get to 30 this year if I need to go through the NHS. I hated being forced to lose weight for this, it made me really angry as being overweight isn't the reason I've got so few eggs!! However, I took up running (did the NHS 'couch to 5k'), started my own "eat as little as possible" diet and then went on weight watchers. I'm now over 3 stone lighter and ran 12.5km on Sunday. You can do it! Don't let being overweight stop you trying IVF - if you're anything like me you would regret not trying it. I feel good with the weight loss too so even if IVF doesn't work, I know I'll be a healthier mum for adopting kids Kx
