Hi everyone, I’m wondering if I should take myself to A&E today as my test lines are definitely getting lighter. I had really sore cramps on Thursday night for about an hour. No bleeding took a test on Friday morning and the line was faint. I then took another test today and the line is even fainter.
I’m worried this is either an ecoptic or miss miscarriage? I should be about 5-6 weeks pregnant I think. Surely the lines should be darker? Very scared and upset xxx
The top photo was from Friday morning and the bottom photo was from this morning.

Hi lovely can your clinic take you for a scan and some bloods? Defo phone them for advice as A&E might not be much help I’m afraid at this stage and with no bleeding EPU could maybe help of clinic won’t xx
Sometimes if your hcg gets too high home pregnancy tests start to do the opposite and start to look negative because your hcg is too high for the tests to pick up..its called the hook effect. I've attached an article explaining the hook effect have a read 😊
So after OTD there is no point using home pregnancy tests, the only way to tell if your pregnancy is progressing as it should at this stage is a beta HCG test...or wait for your first scan. Try and put the tests down or you will drive yourself insane. Hopefully it is just the hook effect happening to your tests. Very best of luck to you xx
Like Niki said in her post, it’s very likely to be hook effect. I remember testing at week 5 or 6 and my lines were faint. So what you can do if you want, dilute your urine and you’ll see, the line will be bright again. There’s a lot about it online, have a google.
For your own peace of mind you can do another blood test to see what your hcg levels are or boom in for a scan. Good luck! Don’t panic xxx
Yes I was gonna suggest diluting it with water but thought better not tell her that or the pee stick addiction continues! hahaha. But yes 2 hcg blood tests 48 hours apart is your best bet to see how everything is progressing 😁 xxx
Oh nice! I'm actually from Canada but moved here 20 years ago 😊 do you miss home? Ugh the US, last place I'd wanna be right now! I live in Wellington where in nz are you from?
Hey Violet, some of the other girls have mentioned the hook effect. Its definitely something to consider when your levels are/should be at a high level. This is the trouble with doing pregnancy tests so late on, not that Im lecturing as I did the same through fear and worry and it did nothing to settle my mind as I had dodgy looking tests. Could you get your bloods done somewhere to confirm all is well?xx
