FET on 5th November. When can I test?

Hello everyone,

It's my first post here so hoping for some help please. I'm not really understanding all of the abbreviations so please bear with me 😁

Anyway, I had an all freeze egg collection a few months ago and I had my first FET on 5th November. This was a grade AA blastocyst frozen on day 5. I've been told by the clinic to do a home pregnancy test on day 11 after the transfer - which is 16th November.

I know it's a very impatient wait for us all, but I had a major meltdown the day after the transfer and I'm worried what effect it's had on implantation. I'm trying not to think negative but I can't think of anything else. Does anyone have any advice please? Can I take a test earlier and how accurate will it be?

Thank you for your help

Hi jojobass,

I am not an expert, but I understand exactly how you feel. I had my transfer only just this past Saturday, and wow I've been emotional. I do a lot of research and I am a health professional. Having a meltdown will not have an impact on the implantation. Things that may have an impact are vigourous exercise, lifting heavy objects, drinking alcohol or to much caffeine. I'm sure your clinic gave you more detailed guidelines. Doing a test is not a good idea because it can give you either a false positive or negative.

Remember that meltdown are ok to have and probably expected :) We are a walking hormonal mess. Try to distract yourself with things you like and rest as much as you can. I personally find acupuncture very helpful, and also painting by numbers (£10 on Amazon!).. I love walking long distances, but right now it is something that could raise my heartbeat more than ideal, and besides I am soooo tired. Listen to your body. You are probably also very tired and all your body wants is to rest and sleep.

Try lying down on your bed and put your left hand on your heart and right hand on your lower abdomen. Breathe. It might help you feel more relaxed and grounded.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much for all your advice, it is very reassuring. I know I've been apprehensive about the transfer but I had no idea I'd be this emotional! I'm so happy I've found this lovely support in this group. Thank you so much, I wish you all the very best for your journey too x x

I wanted to say hello as I also had a FET on the 6th November. It's only 3 days in and I'm already over the wait - my worst thing is not being able to have caffeine at work, it turns out I can't function without it! 😂

My clinic have given me an official test date of 17th November. To be really honest, and I'm not recommending this, but I will almost certainly start testing daily from the 14th, because I'm just not patient enough to hold out any longer. Knowing that some people will get a positive from day 7 or 8 just makes it too hard for me to resist testing early (even though I know it could be a false negative).

Fingers crossed for both of us 🤞

Thanks for the reply, yes it is so hard isn't it, much harder than I thought it would be. I too have struggled without caffeine. I avoided coffee for the first 2 days and I've reduced down to 2 coffees a day since then. I'm going to buy caffeine free i think. Good luck to you too, got my fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞

Hi Jono, congrats on your transfer 😊 This is a tough journey and with all the meds flying around our systems I think

meltdowns are to be expected and don't beat yourself up about it. I always say to my oh that he wouldn't like it if I injected him full of hormones 😂 Have your tried the mindful IVF app? Ive found it very useful when I feel I'm become anxious or moody I pop it on and zone out.

I had my transfer on the 5th and like you my OTD is the 16th. I will not be testing early as I feel it will bring me a lot of stress whatever the result. I tested early in a previous cycle and got a positive and panicked everyday about lines getting lighter. In hindsight I wish it's waited until OTD. However, I also know how hard it is to resist the temptation to test 🙈 try and hold out as long as you can.

I'll have everything crossy for you and wish you the very best 🤞🏻 xx

Transfer twins!! I'm feeling so very impatient with the wait but you're right, I wouldn't want a false reading so I'm going to wait. Hopefully this week goes faster than the weekend did.

I've seen that app mentioned on another post actually, I'm going to download it as I feel i could use it at the moment. Good luck to you for 16th as well. Hopefully good news for both of us 🤞 x

Hi, I had my frozen transfer on the 6th of Nov

(I plan to test on the 17th Nov)

I would just listen to your clinic and test on the 16th to make sure you have the correct result

On my first transfer I started testing after 6 days and every day after that. (even though it was negative) testing earlier made it so much worse. I couldn't sleep at night worrying thinking the test the next day may change .. it was awful. I've sworn this time, I will wait and then atleast I know that's the result and won't have to keep worrying and re-testing.

Sorry for the long essay but I hope the above helps.

I'm wishing you the best luck💕, try starting a new box set on Netflix, reading a book or anything to keep your mind busy xx

Jojobass, I also had my FET and in this 2ww!! I had no symptoms whatsoever and can’t wait to test. In my first FET, I tested 10dp5dt even though my OTD was 12dp... it was a BFN and I called the clinic and they told me that it’s unlikely that I will get a BFP if it was negative on 10dp... This time, I decided to test early. I know for some ladies, testing early is too stressful but for me, I think it will help me to gradually accept the result and prepare for the next step if I have to.. my OTD is 18th. Its been 4dp today and I got a BFN but will be testing everyday from today. I think one of the concerns from clinics are that they might find some patients testing early then stopping all medication if it was a false negative.. but as long as you test until OTD to make sure it’s definitely negative before stopping medicines, I don’t think it’s bad to test early (if you can take it emotionally).

Hello!! I have seen handful of posts that some ladies test 4dp5dt and had a BFN but in the end had a BFP! Thus I’m definitely not reading much into 4dp5dt results. I feel ok knowing that it’s still early but if you find it a struggle emotionally, I think you should wait until OTD!

lots of baby dust to you, too!!! Xxx don’t worry too much about the negative result on 4dp5dt and stay positive!! From what I have read, some of the ladies who had negative then seem to have gotten positive around 8,9dp5dt. But everyone seems really different, some even get positive only on 10dp!!!

Hello. I also had my transfer on the 5th! My OTD is the 18th!!

I tested yesterday (4dp5dt) snd it was negative ... I have no idea why I tested so early 🙈 I think google and seeing lots of people getting a positive this early.

So glad I found this forum as everyone has been so nice and confirmed I tested waaaayyy too early.

I’ve had a few meltdowns too - I think we all have. It’s all the hormones they’re filling us with.

I freaked out yesterday as I walked about a mile to supermarket and carried some shopping home and thought - I’ve ruined my chances now!

I’m also super forgetful at the minute.

I’m not testing again until at least the 16th!

I hole you’re feeling ok. It’s a stressful time but try to think of the exciting outcome :)

Xxx

Two years ago, I tested 9 days after a FET, and it was positive ❤️

9 days should be reliable, it's like 14 days after ovulation.

Hiya- a few years ago I tested at 4dp5dt with a first response early detection test and there was a very faint line and he’s 18 months old now. It probably doesn’t happen for everyone though. If you’re going to test use one of those tests, they’re the most sensitive and clearest. Good luck!

Hi there Jojobass. Just like you, I had my FET on the evening of 5th November. My clinic said my first beta blood test would be 9dp5dt (9 days post 5 day transfer). Unfortunately where I live, the 14th of November is a public holiday and the fertility clinic is closed that day. So they said I could come in 8dp5dt and the hcg should show in my blood then. I couldn’t resist testing at home no matter how much I tried, I started testing 3dp5dt and got a faint positive 4dp5dt and this morning as well. But it’s still nerve wracking because you still don’t know if it’s viable till the blood test and again to see if the hcg is doubling with the second beta blood test. It may not be accurate at all sometimes and it could cause you stress if it’s a false negative and you’re actually pregnant. For many people it shows up positive much later, it really differs. Whatever will make you feel better. I too had major meltdowns, crying fits and that worried me more, what if that caused it not to work. But don’t worry, everything will be fine. Fingers crossed for positive betas !
