Clomid

Is there a set amount of clomid cycles when undergoing fertility treatment with the NHS? I wasn't told how many I would be trying. Im currently waiting for a period to start cycle 4. Cycle day 40 and negative pregnancy test so I'm pretty sure I didn't ovulate with this cycle. Did inform the hospital but I've still been prescribed the same dose (50g).

My clinic said 6 for letrozole so I think clomid would perhaps be similar? Xx

My hospital said 6 but they only counted the cycles that worked so the ones that I didn’t ovulate they didn’t count. I had 9 cycles in the end as 3 of them didn’t work.

Hey, I did 6 rounds of clomid. On round 3 or 4 I didn’t ovulate either (or ovulated really late) so my dose was increased to 100mg. Are you having scans to check a follicle is growing? Xx

Thats helpful, thank you. I had a scan with my first cycle and as I was responding they said further scans would not be required. Do you mind me asking how many days your late cycle ended up being? In CD41 now and have PCOs so irregular periods can be normal (but the wait and not knowing frustrating!)

I took ages to respond in first cycle but then eventually I did. It was NHS but I was paying for it so I asked for scans each cycle. They were never consistent length. Still usually 35 days +, that particularly long cycle was probs about 6 weeks or more xx

Ps I would push for 100mg if you think not working. Worked for me for following cycles but still not super short cycles. Side effects weren’t worse or anything xx

6 was the max said my nhs hospital as it does have some risks when continued for longer.

Thanks. I had a feeling it would be as had read it a few times so just thought I'd ask others. Thats helpful though, thank you. Just felt a little in the lurch as hadn't been told by the hospital

Usually you take it for 6 months. You should have an internal scan during the first cycle to make sure your ovaries haven't been over stimulated. You should also have the 21day progesterone blood test too.

I am currently taking 100mg and had a scan on day 12 which did not show I was ovulating. I discussed with the nurse testing with ovulation sticks to see when I ovulate, I didn't ovulate until day 18 and went then to have my blood test on the 23.

If I were you I would contact the fertility nurse and ask if you can increase your dose to 100mg.

Thanks for this, this is really helpful.

I had a scan with my first Clomid cycle and as I responded they said further scans would not be required. I didnt have a day 21 blood test though.

I've been doing ov sticks and charting bbt but when i called the hospital recently to request my next clomid prescription (cycle 4) I mentioned I didnt think I had ovulated this month (in case they needed to up the dose) but I was told to stop testing/charting bbt as it could be causing unecessary stress. Dose not changed. So just feeling a little in limbo at the mo and especially with having not at any point been told how long I would be trying the clomid for. Maybe I'll give them a call today to ask.

We were given 6 months supply of 100mg. But we weren't monitered or anything as she said I ovulated anyhow xx

I had 4 cycles on clomid and then switched to letrazole for 6 cycles. Regardless of dose my cycles were always 35 days plus (which was good considering I hadn't had a natural period for years due to PCOS). My hospital were great though and monitored me every cycle so I would ask to have another monitored cycle.

Hope they listen to you.

Like everyone else is saying it is 6 but often they will let you continue if after 6 you move onto IVF and they keep you going whilst you wait. My little boy was conceived on cycle 6 he’s currently 5 months old! 🤞🏼 keep going it’s great stuff and don’t lose hope xxx

Thank you so much, this was really reassuring to read. Weve been debating looking into private treatment but I'm trying to hold out with the clomid. If by cycle 6 the hospital suggest something different ill wait and see what wait times and then maybe we'll reconsider things again then. Will hang in there. Thank you 🙂

I've been told 6 cycles and they increased my dose to 150mg as I didn't ovulate in the first two months at 50 and 100mg. I was also told because they couldn't increase it any more I wouldn't get another blood test to see if I ovulated so I'm winging it/relying on the ovulation tests. Frustrated by it all and losing hope as I only have two more cycles of clomid and my next appointment is in March!
